Jack Kennedy is frequently looking more and more tactically desperate in big races…..I don’t get the confidence and coolness that the great Irish jockeys usually have and although its a cliche there is much to be said for always being in the right place in a race….and Kennedy seems to repeat the same unsuccessful tactics time after time.
Maybe he just lacks experience but I’m afraid but the wonder kid tag is looking overblown on the evidence of this Cheltenham’s rides on a way above average looking book of rides this week.
March 15, 2019 at 15:09 #1402290It would seem he kicked for home much too soon on Eclair de beufeu

Before the Festival started I heard someone describing him as cool and unfazed, that he is as relaxed about big race rides and treats them no differently from how he would a seller at Kilbeggan. This is unnatural and complacent. Even the most experienced jockeys have nerves, heightened emotions and an extra edge when riding at Cheltenham. It would be weird if they didn’t. Furthermore, homework, thorough preparation and tactical thinking are a crucial part of any pro sportsman’s job.
Perhaps by being on many gifted and excellently trained horses from a young age he has neglected to put the effort in.
Apart from the ride mentioned by Befair, his performance on Apple’s Jade was appalling. He fell into the trap laid by insisting on vying for the lead at a ridiculous pace, instead of adapting and tracking, and was beaten by halfway. Gigginstown are not slow to replace jockeys.
