Cumani thinks she’s still in Australia Turner has been done up like her grandmother she looks like a spectator not an Ex jockey / Racing Expert that comment yesterday about having a bet on Lancaster Bomber was unprofessional. Matt Chapman does not suit that role at all! The Awkward podium talk with the trainers is awfully embarrassing. especially When AOB is talking!! Ed Walker is Not a Racing Expert that’s for Sure. Weaver is Weaver don’t mind him on Atr Looks out of place on here. its Dull, Boring , Crap!

No channel does it Like the BBC did! and that’s why i don’t watch it!

…… Talking of interviews, I think it was Gosden who showed signs of wanting to walk away, today, whilst a bookie told Chapman to look down the line for 7/4 on the O’Brien horse. Once again he was being a pest.

    [/quote]

Aidan O’Brien was entitled to be really annoyed on 1000 guineas day because Oli Bell was exploiting his good nature by buttonholing him for an interview as he walked back to view the race…seemed totally intrusive at a time when O’Brien could probably have done with a bit of privacy…..it’s not as though the interviews are any good either.

To be fair, she was spot on with her comments with regards her thoughts on the horses pre race [something that Gina excelled at, though]. Can’t believe I’m saying this but I did actually miss Emma Spencer yesterday, although they obviously couldn’t have her working with Hayley Turner.

Pretty simple, get rid of Turner. She adds absolutely nothing . Her most used term , “chilled out”. Argh!

Never really understood the dislike towards Emma Spencer. She was good at her job

I never knew there was a dislike or whether Emma didn’t want the job. But I agree with you. Not only was she good to look at but she knew how to get the most out an interview and she never screeched like Plunkett. Talking of interviews, I think it was Gosden who showed signs of wanting to walk away, today, whilst a bookie told Chapman to look down the line for 7/4 on the O’Brien horse. Once again he was being a pest.

A lot a of viewers did not like Spencer, they thought she was a clothes horse. Rather unfair, she knew her stuff and wasn’t a bad tipster (all some commentaries and viewers seem to be concerned is what tips a pundit can give)

Aussies love Cumani funny enough and they are meant to be hard to impress. Must be the accent, being the only one who is remotely audible boom boom .Not gone on her either. But, she is different so will give her time

Jesus , Chapman was really badly channeling a poor McCarrick impression. I would prefer if he was running around the paddock trying to get interviews like he does on ATR. Some of that can be gold (Treve’s connections during the Arc in 2014 or whenever Roger Varian is about) and cringe (Dank in the Breeders Cup with Stoute)

Meh, have no big issue with pundit putting their money where there mouth is. Couldn’t care less what they dress like either, but Turner is boring

As for AOB, heis like that all of the time. I partly think it is a stunt, playing the awkward choir boy . Ridiculous, I doubt he is like that when “the lads” are brining in new investors on board and they want to talk to the big man himself. Frankly, his obsession with the phone at a time that he damn well knows that the press and tv people want to talk to him is ridiculous. Ignorant even. Surprised no one from the media has not commented. It is not like he gives much away anyway at times. Imagine if you were trying to talk to your friend and they were too occupied with fiddling with the phone ? Like it or not, trainers have an obligation to speak with the press. He might as well do a Stoute and just avoid the press and when he does, look hostile. Still, AOB is one of the more media friendly trainers. Gosden is great but he can be very condescending at times, which can be funny

Chamberlain is unbearable. He comes out with such bland statements and compliments. You would swear that he is going to burst into tears at any point.

We spoke to Aidan and Joseph when we went to the Arc a few years ago. They were quiet, polite and helpful, signing loads of autographs at a time when they had plenty of other things they needed to do. Our opinion of him totally changed that day. I still get fed up of them winning everything as I always support the underdog, but I now have a great respect for the man.

I just don’t think Aiden is that comfortably in front of the camera…you tend to get the exact same interview from him after they have won with a overly generous helping of the word listen. Stoute more often than not treats an interview like something he has just step in and is trying to scrape off the bottom of his shoe.

Gosden on the other hand always gives a great interview and is quite free with the information he gives on his horse and the race (explains things in laymans terms) and always make the interviewee’s job easy. Will always remember him speaking so eloquently in the immediate aftermath of Rewilding’s fatal injury in the King George, he said:

“It’s a freakish thing. He [Rewilding] has put the leg down wrong, and he’s broken the cannon-bone clean. He ran down the track in front of everyone and stopped. He was very calm and collected and we held him. He had to be dealt with because the leg was completely gone.

“It was a freak of nature. He was in no pain. The extraordinary thing is when they break a leg like that, it’s as though nature anaesthetises them. They feel absolutely no pain. They feel more with a cut. I fed him a bit of grass and he munched away. Unfortunately, he had to be put down.”

Ya, to be fair, when you are around the Curragh track, you could see Mr O’Brien at any point, whether in the pre parade ring, or walking to it though the betting stalls and the great unwashed. When people wave over or wish him well, he always acknowledges them. No airs and graces. When Joseph collected his award for the Irish St Leger in 2015 (his last classic, and he never won that before) he was rushing between the parade ring and weighing room. Naturally when there is a crowd ya kinda have to barge through. He accidentally did kind of he had no choice the presenters were waiting for him. An elderly enough lady slightly got unbalanced but he turned around, totally embarrassed and profusely apologized. Others , unintentionally would be oblivious to what might have happened.

Gosden’s tv appearance before and after Kingman’s romp at the Irish Guineas was hilarious as was his short story about his time with Vincent O’Brien. The track was in very good order despite the horrible rain (great weekend for Juddmonte that day, as Weld’s Juddmonte filly also placed in the 1000 Guineas and Noble Mission won his first Group 1)

Johnson commentating at Chester for ITV today whilst Hoiles is commentating at Newton Abbot, thought Hoiles would have been at Chester

Any chance of re-naming the thread ‘The Matt Chapman Show – The Ego Has Landed’? He is out performing himself every day. It is as if he really thinks this is HIS stage. Hard to believe that ITV think his antics are actually promoting racing. It has got to the point where he almost makes McCririck look sane.

I didn’t watch yesterday but today was dire in just about every department, except I much prefer Johnson to Hoiles. Why was Weaver asking Murtagh how to ride Chester?

I think some people won’t be happy irrelevant of whose presenting. Bell and Chamberlain are patronising at times but don’t find them annoying. Matt is trying to do too many things but can’t help finding him entertaining. Cumani is slightly irritating but usually makes some very astute observations. As for saint aiden of ballydoyle give the guy a break. His horses are winning everything just now so seems to spends so much time doing interviews. He can only says things differently on a few occasions but find his praising of his team great and remember he is in charge of the biggest training and breeding operation in the world and takes all the pressure on his shoulders. He should employ a spokesman like teddy grimthorpe at juddmonte so he can get on with his job.

Think it comes across as much more laidback and fun than the channel four product, which was pretty dire by the end.

The flat is quite relaxing really with none of that awful drawl by Mick Fitzgerald. Fransesca Cumani has grown on me and they should keep her and shelf Hayley Turner, who offers nothing.

ITV seemed to have hit their stride in general this week with Johnny Murtagh offering some interesting insight and having good chemistry with his buddy Jason Weaver :good:

Mick Fitzgerald just told the audience that Peace And Co beat Top Notch Tonto in the Triumph Hurdle.

I think it was the Lone Ranger who beat Tonto. It was Top Notch whom Peace And Co beat.

    Hi Ho Silver Mick.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
