Before the Pertemps Qualifier today, Mick Fitz noted that “this is one of those rare races where you’ll see jockeys racing for sixth place”. Doesn’t rule D45 of the BHA Riders’ Manual stipulate that jockeys should always be seen to be trying to achieve the best possible placing?
On another note, it’d be nice if ITV ran a little video montage when a big race is named after a horse; not only would it enlighten newcomers to the sport, but I doubt that many of us old-timers would tire of seeing clips of Relkeel, Lanzarote, etc in their pomp.

I did email them and suggest they couldn’t go wrong dipping into the archive. The older the better as far as I’m concerned. Don’t think they did it today.
Still thank goodness they are offering an alternative to RUK. Almost the complete rogue’s gallery today with Machin, Cunningham, Nevison, Yates, Willoughby and Ben ‘new star’ Linfoot.
January 14, 2017 at 23:58 #1282167I’m really enjoying it. Yes, even Matt Chapman.
January 15, 2017 at 00:12 #1282169Watching the Joseph O’Brien interview on the Opening Show I began to wonder how the subtitles section were coping with his million words a second delivery and broad accent so I turned them on.
Well if anyone had been relying on them to fully comprehend the content of the interview they would have been left wondering because the subs couldn’t keep up and left out hefty chunks of information with a few misheard words mistakenly added to the mix, they must have been at least 10 seconds behind everything he said.
Not really good enough for those people hard of hearing when the subtitles team could have had the subs ready to roll on a recorded interview.
Must admit though even with good hearing I did have to concentrate quite hard to take in everything Joseph was saying. Great interview though and hope more like it to come. Well done to them today.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 15, 2017 at 00:24 #1282171Did Sally Ann Grassick go home early ?
January 15, 2017 at 12:42 #1282209Caught up with some of the programmes debut. Seemed good to me. Then again i don’t look for faults, or think that programmes should be made for me. It has racing. Everything else is a bonus. All they need is Willie Carson there to inject some humour.
January 15, 2017 at 13:05 #1282217I must say, I really enjoy it. And I quite like the throwback to the experts during the race…. reminds me of the old days with John Oaksey. And the program seems to run a lot better with the ad breaks seemingly better placed than on c4

January 15, 2017 at 19:43 #1282273Have to say I’m quite enjoying it so far. After some initial first day nerves Ed Chamberlin seems to be settling in quite nicely, while I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised with Luke Harvey (think I was expecting the buffoon version we often see on ATR). Even Fitzy seems less annoying then on CH4 – I wonder if he’s more comfortable with the lighter presentation style then we saw previously with the likes of Cunningham, McGrath, Luck et al on Four.
Also enjoying the “Opening Show’s” fast paced mix of previews, features and interviews. Seems to cram more in one hour then CH4 did in a month of standard Morning Lines.
January 21, 2017 at 09:31 #1283036The first itv racing on itv4 attracted 337,000 viewers and was itv4 second most watched show of the week behind a film called 633 Squadron which had 465,000 viewers.
Just 3,000 people tuned into itv4+1 for the repeat.
There is no comparable figure with Channel 4 last year as racing did not make the top 30 programmes to compare.
It depends on your view whether being the 2nd most watched show on itv4 is comparable with not making the c4 top 30 but I would suspect these figures are way down as the morning line used to attracted around 200,000 a show.
January 21, 2017 at 10:47 #1283061They probably are down. I can’t remember the last time I watched ITV4 before they put racing on it.
I’m enjoying the show, though, so hopefully that won’t be held against it.
January 21, 2017 at 11:16 #1283070Taping failed for this mornings show. When is the earliest I will be able to watch it on catch up?

do you have itv4+1?
January 21, 2017 at 11:57 #1283091I looked at that but bizarrely it said programmes return at 5am.

Yes so you have Freeview so itv hub will be your only option
January 21, 2017 at 12:15 #1283100Just checked it is on the ITV hub now.
January 21, 2017 at 16:09 #1283164Good to see Brough Scott back on ITV today however don’t think he and Matt Chapman are the best of friends.
Graham Cunningham was far better on Racing UK rather than the sorry Rishi and Mick Fitz, shame he didn’t stay with ITV.
