In terms of popular winners – there’s a few contenders here.
Lalor would surely be the most moving winner of the week and would undoubtedly bring a tear the even the most stoic of individuals. After the family challenges this year it would be a delight to cheer home Lalor.
Paisley Park would be another contender what with the Andrew Gemmell story. To see this gentleman’s passion for racing despite his obvious impairments is a delight. Surely the post race interview would be something to behold.
Lastly – what about Faugheen in the Stayers Hurdle? This will surely be his last Festival and it would be great to say goodbye to an old friend on a high. Reports from Mullins seem relatively positive. Something tells me he might just have another good race in him.
Any thoughts?
March 6, 2019 at 16:20 #1399931Lalor- meh. A lot of the “sympathy” comes from sad blokes who fancy Kayley. If she were fat and ugly, would the story get as much coverage? Don’t think so.
Paisley Park- definitely.
Faugheen- they never come back. Or do they?
March 6, 2019 at 16:31 #1399932Can’t say I know much about the Lalor story, or his connections.
Paisley Park yes I agree, that would be a fantastic story….
Unfortunately I’m in the Faugheen camp as he’s my banker of the week…but I’d settle for coming second to Paisley Park.March 6, 2019 at 16:53 #1399934Can’t say I know much about the Lalor story, or his connections.
Jamie – Earlier in the season, last year, Richard Woollacott, the trainer of Lalor and husband to Kayley, sadly took his own life. His wife, Kayley, despite the obvious challenges has continued the training operation. Lalor is the flag bearer of the yard. Hope that helps.
March 6, 2019 at 17:09 #1399939I haven’t a bean on him but I’d quite like to see Presenting Percy win just to watch the scenes as he is led in- the Irish going mental, the owner spontaneously combusting with joy at having a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, the trainer probably disappearing like Gandalf and the jockey still not knowing directions to the yard to bring the horse a bag of apples when they all go home.
March 6, 2019 at 17:16 #1399940Tiger Roll winning may be the one I think. Lost count how many Cheltenham wins he will have had and the Nation expects as well.
March 6, 2019 at 17:24 #1399942Oh yes Tiger Roll..you couldn’t not love him
Bryony winning on Frodon would obviously be a big deal and the telly presenters would be wetting themselves.March 6, 2019 at 17:29 #1399943I’d also like Mouse Morris to win with his only runner of the week, considering he hasn’t had a great season and Gigginstown took any good horses they had with him away.
March 6, 2019 at 17:32 #1399944Thanks CNC…
March 6, 2019 at 17:43 #1399947If Tiger Roll comes in, which I so hope he does, the bookies will be running for cover. I agree, it would be a massively popular win not just because the entire crowd will be on him. It has to be one of the bookies biggest losers of the week. Come on Tiger….
March 7, 2019 at 13:46 #1400068Mouse Morris hasn’t lost all faith with Gigginstown and vice-versa, he now pre-trains for them rather than training them under rules. Still be making good euro from the operation.
March 7, 2019 at 16:14 #1400093Yep I know he does pretraining but still…getting the likes of Alpha des Obeaux taken off you is pretty tough. I know Gordon has done well with him since, perhaps better than Mouse would have done if he’d stayed there but it wouldn’t have killed them to let those horses see out their careers with him.
Ach I suppose you never know the right way of things behind closed doors and and perhaps Morris wanted to take a step back and get the Giggi pressure for results off. Who knows.March 7, 2019 at 16:33 #1400099I’d love something from the north to win one of the handicaps. Wouldn’t bring the roof down but would be a great boost to real racing fans.
March 7, 2019 at 18:15 #1400107Faugheen; it will be the swan-song for one of the greats. I’ve truly never seen a horse that simply had everything; speed, stamina, enthusiasm, electric to watch. There’ll also be a feeling of regret + what might have beens, that injury curtailed his already stellar career, + that we never saw him over fences
March 8, 2019 at 10:32 #1400177If Thistlecrack wins the Gold Cup. I don’t think he will though
