“I’m more interested in the horses I don’t really care who wins the trainer or jockey title.”

    Well said RTB. 👍

Unfortunately, the media needs a story. Or a “narrative”, as they would call it.

“Wonder how many trainers were scared off the Whitbread by the huge Mullins entry.”

Doubt the huge entry would put you off, as you have the same number of horses to beat whoever trains them. The big difference is the declaration of Grangeclare West keeping lots out of the weights, probably why there are no reserves. Better to get a refund of your entry fees than face an impossible task at the weights.
If GW hadn’t be declared every other horse would have been in the weights if the bottom weight had been 10 stone. When did they change the bottom weight to 10 stone 2 lbs and why?
Hopefully GW will stay sound, it wouldn’t look good if he was a late withdrawal.

As a number of posters have commented, the huge prizemoney for the Grand National has too much bearing on the trainers’ championship. I’d like to see some of this distributed elsewhere. Not to something like the Gold Cup though, but to races in the autumn in the hope of making the season more competitive throughout.

Can’t they just not include Grand National winnings in the trainers championship?

Didn’t being run to help PN win the trainers championship end Azertiop’s racing career?

Chamberlain will be salivating at the prospect of this Glad and he’ll wring every last ounce out of this tomorrow. It will be unbearable.

Indeed Griff at least Miss Nicholls showed she was none too impressed yesterday at what has happened to the Whitbread albeit she is on the side of Dan Skelton nevertheless she couldn’t hide her anger.

The more I know the less I understand.

Megan Nicholls on the side of Dan Skelton. Former assistant trainer to…Paul Nicholls!

Horse Racing. One nice little cosy club.

David Brady wrote on this very forum on an old thread regarding Training performances back in 2005 –

How about MC Pipe turning out 19 horses at Sandown on Whitbread Day in 2005 to ensure victory in the Trainers Championship. That was pretty impressive.

I wonder if David is angry today, if indeed he is still with us

There was a write up about the Pipe/Nicholls “war” in the RP a couple of days ago.

    “It will be unbearable.”

I’ll be watching on RTV. Was going to go to Sandown today, but feeling unwell.

Well, it’s basically a tie at the moment (after the 3rd at Sandown)….

Thought Townend got rather outridden on Kitzbuhel if I am honest, should have won the race but got rather needlessly boxed in up the entire straight.

I think Willie now has around a £2k lead, with the next two races likely to decide it one way or the other – very surprised to see Energumene here and that Townend is actually on him instead of Il Etait Temps, that ground will be far too fast for Energumene especially considering Gaelic Warrior’s winning time was only 0.11s slow.

Well done to them. Brilliant training performance and incredible to have both of them in the same stable.

Mullins now £116k clear so Skelton needs to win the last two races with Willie not picking up any further prize money to win
