I recall posting a few years ago that there were too many sub-forums on this site, and now we’ve got a dozen of the bloody things!
These days, people just can’t be bothered to faff about wading through 12 forums to find out what’s happening.
Just have three: “Racing”, “Competitions” and “Everything Else”. That’s all you need.
November 19, 2015 at 10:22 #1222269Why are you posting pictures of Paul Ostermeyer, Drone?
Now I’m really confused
Agree with you, Venusian. People don’t want faffery these days.
November 19, 2015 at 10:46 #1222273However the forum splits the sections
Memorials should be kept separate, it’s a unique part of the forum which I have not seen anywhere else and gives respect to those horses lost that have given us the sport we enjoy.Blackbeard to conquer the World

Yes, I think this is absolutely correct with perhaps, as Nathan suggests, a permanent Memorials thread.
With the internet and the general pace of life nowadays, I’ve found that people have a very limited atten
November 19, 2015 at 21:53 #1222342I’ve looked into preview posts function but haven’t sussed it yet. Will make another attempt.
I agree about the forums, will sort out a streamlined structure over the weekend.

Have you been hacking my ZX81 Cavelino Anonimo?
Oh well, the truth will out, cover blown
Not that it’s of any particular importance but the new emoticons on this site are ghastly
I realise there’s a myriad combinations of graphemes, glyphs and diacritics that encode emoticons of choice but they’re a mystery to me, so could we have the useful and understated default set back after you’ve sorted out the forums please?

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Just kidding, don’t take it the wrong way, don’t mention the war, we’re all friends now:

November 22, 2015 at 22:35 #1222868November 24, 2015 at 16:05 #1223032Haven’t posted in a long time, nothing to do with the site. Just personal reasons, I’m hoping to contribute occasionally. It’s good to see some of the old crowd still here.
November 24, 2015 at 20:04 #1223062The ability to edit the TITLE of a thread would be nice.
November 26, 2015 at 11:41 #1223383I’ll never understand the “cliquey” criticism this forum gets. Two or more humans communicating over a common interest on a regular enough basis will certainly develop a familiarity to their interaction, but hey we’re homo sapiens, its what we do. We generally like familiarity. Isn’t labelling it as anything else a tad sociopathic?
Strongly agree with this. Moreover, even in its slightly pared-down format following the relaunch, TRF is fundamentally still too big a site for “a small exclusive group of friends or associates” (as I believe the definition of a clique to be) to hold sway over the whole blessed thing.

November 26, 2015 at 12:09 #1223386where’s Jeremy these days?
Oh, I’m still lurking, Mark. I get where water doesn’t.
However, 2015 has been the year in which life has got in the way rather; and whilst the Pointing and other freelance work has been in no shorter supply, the time I’ve been able to devote to discussing online what I’ve seen on-course has pretty much reduced to nil. Two miscarriages, two parents in the first throes of failing health and (on a happier note) getting engaged have all made sure of that one way or another.
For those and other reasons, whilst the passion and enthusiasm for racing and especially Pointing remains undiminished, the passion and enthusiasm for arguing about it on here with one or two of the sort of antagonists Cavelino was referring to earlier in this thread has gone. Explaining for the umpteenth time why racing isn’t as bent as is frequently suggested, why racing on synthetics year-round is good and necessary, why there are three jumps meetings on the middle Sunday in July, etc. etc. is no longer as preferable a use of my time as taking care of people dear to me.
Be safe, y’all, and be kind.
