Thanks Matron, but it’s working fine today for the first time in weeks
November 9, 2015 at 13:41 #1220873there is spam in the memorial section which needs deleting.
Yes apologies for the language in there, but it just made my blood boil at the time.

Homer…no apology needed as far as I’m concerned you summed up what everyone else was thinking.. of all the places to post spam it is an insult to the memories of those beautiful horses…
please Matron it really does need to go as it looks highly likely that the anonymous coward is selling stolen identities on our beloved Memorials site…please delete and block all anonymous users.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 9, 2015 at 14:52 #1220888I have deleted the two post and also the member.
Just send me an message if it happens again.
November 9, 2015 at 15:26 #1220891Will do Matron…thank you.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 9, 2015 at 16:06 #1220894I’ll never understand the “cliquey” criticism this forum gets. Two or more humans communicating over a common interest on a regular enough basis will certainly develop a familiarity to their interaction, but hey we’re homo sapiens, its what we do. We generally like familiarity. Isn’t labelling it as anything else a tad sociopathic?
The forum has been noticeably quite lately. I’ve found the absence of David a miss, the aforementioned links to stuff that happened months ago on the title page has certainly given an abandoned feel to the place that is off-putting. Stick up up a picture more in keeping with the time of year. Something for the jumps now, a picture of Epsom around Derby time etc, a simple fix that gives an inhabited feel to the place.
Maybe its just me but when I read an increasing amount of content from people who seem to actively dislike bookmakers, exchanges, betting, large crowds at racecourses, all weather racing, flat racing, racing on TV, Timeform, data etc…I personally find it off-putting as well. In fact I think it has a pernicious effect on the forum as whole. We all like a whinge but I wonder why some people on here bother with the game at all…
The industry people who formerly posted on here continue to be missed by me anyway, but they seem happier communicating amongst themselves on Twitter these days.
If I could suggest another improvement that might be considered it would be to condense the layout. My Twitter and I’d imagine most peoples timelines are an absolute mish-mash of topics, opinions, links, almost impossible to follow debates and conversations but for some reason people love it. Maybe its the simplicity and immediacy of the thing, its all there on a single scrollable page, quickly.
I suggested splitting the Big Races section from the main forum at the time, but I’d now suggest rolling them together again. I’d also suggest putting the Cheltenham and Royal Ascot sections back onto the main forum again. I have a feeling that would help. It would certainly give the main forum a more lived in feel and perhaps encourage some of those Twtter fiends back onto TRF again. Seriously consider condensing the thing, David.
But we all love TRF , and hopefully she has a long and glorious future.
November 9, 2015 at 16:47 #1220896I sincerely hope not, I have only just found this site and have really enjoyed reading most of the threads.
Work is very busy at the moment but I will try to contribute and post as mush as possible.
November 9, 2015 at 16:59 #1220897Its an accurate observation Joe,I have definitely seen less contributions since the forum changeover and I wonder if some just cant be bothered to move with it.I was impressed with the turnout for last years 10 to follow comp that was brilliantly run by VTC and I thought this years would definitely attract less interest as the forum has seen little traffic of late.Surprisingly I’d say we have at least the number of entrants if not more than last year so that is re-assuring.Again that is down to Bob running it.I know from experience that whereas I loved the flat and Jumps equally in the past I now love the jumps way more and that has seen me quieten down during the summer.Thankfully we’ve had Jonibake to carry us this past 6 months as far as giving us a good read with Winners thrown in and anyone who starts a Big race thread is always inviting for those with foresight, now that the Jumps is warming up and the proper season gets under way at Cheltenham this week with Johns Spirit winning the Paddy Power Gold cup at 16/1 we should see things liven up again…Hopefully! TRF has become part of our lives and has given me the chance to meet some interesting characters, including the Ginger one.Lets hope it stays that way.
This place hasn’t been the same since Calgary Bay retired. Eh, Gord?

November 9, 2015 at 17:12 #1220898The forum will feel slow at the moment because SteveCaution has taken time out.
Remember Gerald? he would post 100 posts a minute and when he jumped overboard the forum went quiet for a while.Homer, I wasn’t worried about your post just giving Matron the nod on the spam..

November 9, 2015 at 17:49 #1220903None of us were worried about your post Homer. It’s exactly what we were all thinking! Gone now anyway – thanks Matron
November 9, 2015 at 18:06 #1220907But the fact that people can easily get through the fence to post stuff like that is a worry. Plus the length of time it stayed live was very poor. It’s not like it would take a moderator hours each day to look through new posts, should have been deleted very swiftly.
November 9, 2015 at 18:41 #1220911It does take an absolute age to go through every section of this forum on a everyday basis.
People can report any infringements to me via the messaging service.

He was a good horse ‘Robin’ Skybet Chase day was one of those you dont forget.
November 10, 2015 at 00:51 #1220951I’ve noticed a lack of posters lately, to be honest most topics are Flat better than Jumps or vice versa or about betting which bores me silly, so keep mainly to the competition section of late.
The was the Melbourne Cup winning jockey being a woman, and I did want to start something there about women jockeys and are they just as good as men, but didn’t know how to go about starting it or if it would create enough interest. Really surprised no one started it first, but to be honest it’s not the first topic which could be an interesting article gone without a mention.

I think the complete opposite, without the type of posts you consider so off putting I feel it would have a dramatic negative impact on both content and quantity of posts.
November 10, 2015 at 09:34 #1220970I think the problem is we’re not rude enough, the biggest posts than run on an equestrian site is when 2 alleged experts start going on about German dressage training methods. Add in a couple of knowitalls and some who know bu@@er all and it usually gets pulled about page 15.
November 10, 2015 at 09:49 #1220973When I was contributing under my original alter-ego ‘Bosranic’, this site was a bustling metropolis of well informed characters and diverse opinions. Some posters were borderline arrogant, others just playful, while the range of experience and knowledge varied. When you amalgamated this with the diverse, individual approaches to the sport, it made TRF the best forum on the horse racing circuit.
Above all, I think TRF is still the best of its kind. Corm and his team have dome a wonderful job over the years, and I hope the community can enjoy if for many years to come. The popularity of social media has done such sites no favours (it’s too easy to submit an opinion without much depth), but I would much rather visit a forum where I can rattle off a few paragraphs and have an intelligent debate.
I’ll certainly be around more in the future
