HOWARD JOHNSON has questioned the professionalism of Paul Gallagher after dispensing with the services of the 24-year-old conditional jockey who joined him from Ferdy Murphy in February.
The pot calling the kettle black.

Surely it is a matter between the individuals involved, rather than something to shout about. This lad will have suffered enough by losing his job and his agent (a MUCH bigger problem – Richard Hale represents all the top jumps riders in the North as Dave Roberts does in the South). He does not deserve to be ridiculed in public over what sounds like an employment/disciplinary matter. It wouldn’t happen in a normal business!
June 7, 2011 at 18:15 #359430Such a shame as the young man has unquestionable prowess and talent. Lets hope that he can turn this around. He may have been irresponsible, but I agree that this matter should have been handled in private. Perhaps he will be better off away from that particular stable
June 7, 2011 at 18:20 #359434He was doing very well until I sang his praises on here – since then he has been banned for taking the wrong course, suffered an injury and now this. Peter Toole was another jockey I complimented. I think I will stick to criticism.
June 7, 2011 at 18:48 #359438Would look pretty poor if he didn’t do anything about it, discipline wise, surely? Even if it seems somewhat ironic. I like the lad to be honest, think he is well worth his claim. Seems to be a bit of a jinx up there as stable jockey.
June 7, 2011 at 19:52 #359451Can’t see the problem myself.
Employee fails to turn up to work and doesn’t get in touch.
Employer says I’m not putting up with that but I like the lad and if he sorts himself out he can come back anytime.
Agent says I’m a bit miffed too.
Media contacts emplyer and agent.
Employer and agent answer question.
June 7, 2011 at 22:47 #359477Why not say simply that it is a private internal contractual issue. Thats surely what would happen in any other working environment. Mutual respect in any working situation

I’m sure they believe they did the right thing, and that is for the trainer, the jockey, and the agent to decide, but did they have to make it into headline news as well?
June 7, 2011 at 23:17 #359485I guess my point was lost here. Howard Johnson send horses to race with frozen limbs and fires a kid for not being professional.Im I missing something?

Your point is not lost.
Surprised that Richard Hale has commented really
June 8, 2011 at 14:06 #359566Erm. the trainer in question hasn’t been found guilty of anything yet has he?
June 8, 2011 at 14:26 #359572He has not been found guilty. But we are not in the legal system just the racing one.He admitted to doing what he is accused of.By the way neither was the kid found guilty in court if that is the standard.
June 8, 2011 at 14:31 #359575Fair enough i think if he has been unprofessional. Only point i make is maybe Johnson should look at it a bit more easy handed considering his own position but alas if he was unprofessional he deserves the sack
June 8, 2011 at 18:42 #359626Johnson does seem to have a problem in hanging on to stable jockeys. They can’t all have been wrong uns or is he just no good at spotting them?
