Cooldine is down to make his chasing debut in the first at Thurles tomorrow with the excellent Paul Townend filling in for Ruby.

Trip looks sharp enough for him but the ground at Thurles is usually quite holding so it should slow the speedier types up. Really think this horse is a fabulous chasing prospect. Could be the one for the Sun Alliance come March.

Only cottoned on to him lately as a rider but he is very good.

Siegemaster’s run can be ignored given that Davy reported that his saddle slipped so it was probably quite a decent effort to get as close as he did in the circumstances.

Although I might be biased because (like John Mccririck) I have him in my TTF it was his first run in a graded chase, so with the saddle business i’m sure we learnt more about his potential than we did of Trafford Lad’s. He’s already had a spin round Fariyhouse over hurdles and I hope Dessie sticks to the plan and sends him there for the Drinmore.

The one thing you’d have to notice about both of the big guns is how left-handed they both are. I’d be against either if they went for the Drinmore.

Bit of a curate’s egg of a performance by Cooldine. We won’t be seeing the best of this horse till he goes over a trip though and Willie normally is more than happy to let one come on for the run. If anyone recalls Missed That’s chasing debut for the same connections and over the same course and distance, you would be very pleased with Cooldine’s win today.

The Drinmore will probably come a bit soon for him so the next target could well be the 3m novice chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Thought after both the Arkle and Sun Alliance winners were trained on these shores that I might resurrect this thread for a while. I think both are heading to Punchestown now so that leaves the Powers Gold Cup very open looking.

Hopefully Noel Meade will have Aran Concerto back and firing and I suppose we could well see Nicanor lining up as well after an encouraging reappearance in desperate ground at Gowran. Trafford Lad’s form has a very solid look to it now after the events at Cheltenham and he’d be one I’d be interested in over the same course and distance that he won the Drinmore. Rare Bob could well be another interesting contender as well on better ground.

Apart from Forpadydeplasterer and Cooldine I thought it was a bit of a mixed bag from the Irish novices at Cheltenham. Made In Taipan ran with great credit in the Arkle but both Golden Silver and Follow The Plan were disappointing. Horner Woods ran an absolute cracker in the Sun Alliance but it is just a shame that his stablemate Chasing Cars couldn’t run in the race because he got within 3/4L of the winner over hurdles last year. Casey Jones got badly outpaced during the race but he flew up the hill and he’d definitely be interesting in the Irish National. Siegemaster’s jumping frailities resurfaced and he needs to get that together if he’s to be a force over fences. For me, one of the biggest disappointments of the week was Tranquil Sea in the Jewson who I thought could’ve been thrown in on some of his novice hurdle form. He disappointed again though and he looks now to have lost his way completely.

I recall there was plenty of talk about Fiveforthree on both this thread and the various Cheltenham threads and I suppose a lot of you might be interested to hear that he’s returning to the track tomorrow in a 2 mile hurdle race at Wexford (3:35 race). Chasing is off the agenda for the rest of this season and he’ll be aimed at one of the grade 1 hurdles at Punchestown. Hopefully we’ll see him and Mikael D’Haguenet over the larger obstacles next year.

We got plenty of big race winners out of this thread last season so I think it is time to resurrect it again for the year ahead.

China Rock, last year’s Ballymore fourth, makes his chasing debut at Gowran tomorrow (5:25). Shaped like a nice chasing prospect over hurdles and Mouse has a good record with sons of Presenting.

    China Rock well beat yesterday.

I’ve noticed an interesting entry in the 2 mile beginners chase at Tipp on Tuesday. The joker that his Harchibald set to make his chasing bow at the age of 10!

Could be the making of him

Wallace, think the jockey was riding to instructions somehow….Mouse likes to use Gowran as a schooing ground as anyone who saw Keepatem’s run there prior to him landing a gamble in the PP chase will vouch for.

Mind you that is all Casey is good for imo these days.
