The only logical move I guess and just a small preview at what might come. Can’t imagine the Guineas or the Derby/Oaks to take place this season. Not even in Ireland.

Derby and Royal Ascot has a chance of going ahead, imo

Wimbledon has been called off; why would Epsom and Ascot go ahead, especially after the recent bad publicity surrounding people claiming to have contracted the Coronavirus at Cheltenham?

Just thinking the same. Both at about the same time, with Royal Ascot taking place even before a mass summer event like Wimbledon.

It is going to be a strange summer without Wimbledon. Expect the Open Golf to be called off soon.

There is no chance of the Derby or Royal Ascot going ahead. Both would require too many people even if held behind closed doors. And who would really want a behind closed doors Derby or Royal Ascot anyway?

I’d imagine the connections of this years crop of 3yos would much rather have a derby/oaks behind closed doors than not at all

It is still 2 months away i am still hopeful that by then the virus will have plateaued and racing behind closed doors becomes feasible

Maybe it might be feasible to run the Derby and Oaks on their own but I would be doubtful they could run the usual two days at Epsom even behind closed doors. The number of runners and personnel required makes it look unrealistic.

If a limited programme is impossible, the authorities may have to sanction classics for four year olds next year. Or maybe restrict the Coronation Cup to four year olds and run a fillies equivalent as well.

Royal Ascot, like Wimbledon, is as much a social occasion as a sporting event and I am doubtful Ascot would want to go ahead behind closed doors. The All England Club made it clear they had no interest proceeding on that basis.

Going to get a 2,000 Guineas for 3-year old unraced maidens next year.

“Going to get a 2,000 Guineas for 3-year old unraced maidens next year.”

They can just rename the Wood Ditton (and move it from the Craven meeting).

The Guineas / Derby / St Ledger could all be postponed. Depending how the virus pans out these could possibly be run August / September / October. Doubtful we’ll see any trials though.

Would have been better to ignore the pointless summer jumping and resume NH in October so resources would be only required on the flat.
