Last year’s winner, Lord Lariat is out, due to an injury.

Added Now Where or When (EW) 20/1 (6 places)

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

My main hope here is Angels Dawn + I’ve had a proper bet at 11-1, as I’ve not had too many bets recently.

I think that Champagne Platinum is worth a bet at 40-1, + finally an ew punt on Milan Native at 100-1

A pity there’s only one GB entry as the field is much of a muchness and I’m sure one or two stayers from this side of the Irish Sea could make an impact. Philip Hobbs must have been spitting feathers having been number 31 in the field which made him first reserve, really useful when there’s a sea in between you and the course!

My figures for this year’s race:

    176 Ash Tree Meadow
    174 The Goffer
    171 Real Steel
    170 Stumptown

    168 Max Flamingo
    168 Panda Boy
    166 Defi Bleu
    165 Must Be Obeyed
    164 Gevrey

The front four have all won or run very well in big fields which ia key pointers. Stamina might be the query but there are so few races of this distance in Ireland that it’s tough to decide anyway, but there are no strong reasons to put me off any of these. I go with Ash Tree Meadow, The Goffer, Real Steel and Stumptown agaisnt the field, at SP since there’s s*d all early prices showing at the moment!

Have to agree with Wilts and Viking above, I think Amitite looks
well in for this and I think the extra distance should bring about
    further improvement.

    Amirite 14s on the exchange.

I was quite sweet on Royale Pagaille for Aintree, so I’m a little disappointed that they’ve sent him here instead. I’m even more disappointed in myself for deciding to wait until the morning to back him as he appears to be the plunge horse of the race

He’s the classiest horse in the race who knows how to give weight away in the mud, so I shouldn’t be too surprised that he’s come in for support. He’ll be my sole go on this as I keep my powder dry for Aintree.

Plenty of form and trends about but the fact is you often just need a dour stayer to win this. The market leans towards the ‘on the up’ horses but while a few of them look very promising this trip is an unknown.

I’ve given a chance to Defi Bleu e/w. Using Betfair’s ‘Edge’ I took 40/1, 5 places (so watch him come 6th!).

He’s far from reliable but won at this meeting last year and has had some good races in defeat this year, notably over 3m4f in both the Cork National and the Grand National Trial at Punchestown in which he finished strongly both times. I’d prefer he hadn’t went to Cheltenham but he ran ok there too. A feather weight and a 5lb claimer, if he can keep in touch he could finish stronger than others.

I’m also drawn to Max Flamingo who will have been targeted at this all year and could easily improve on his 7th last year where he didn’t get the most straightforward of trips. 33/1

The market is very lively at the moment, lots of fluctuations..

Seeing the way that Cheltenham festival runners have performed in the last two days, decided to give them the lines mans elbow.

    Espanito Bello 18/1 e/w 7 places
    Busselton 33/1 e/w 7 places
    The Devils Coachman 11/1 e/w 6 places

    All for fun

Going on the trends of won over 3 miles, won right handed, rated under 144

    Iv gone with

    Stumptown 9.4
    Angels dawn 16.0
    Panda Boy 16.50

A little worried the top two had a hard race in the kim muir but gonna stick with the trends

Once bitten, twice shy- I hadn’t actually backed Ash Tree Meadow before he was pulled.

I’m going with Dolcita ew- by the same sire as Burrows Saint and Gaillard du Mesnil and the same damsire as Royal Pagaille; her half sib was a running on 5th in a Grand Steep and hopefully she didn’t have too hard a time after her chance had gone at Cheltenham when she had to jump over Riviere d’Etel and Jordan Gainford’s heads. Also has the assistance of Danny Mullins.

I’ll add a little ew on Gevrey, although it’s soon enough after his Cheltenham efforts, and Busselton who can run into a place without harming his mark for Aintree next year.

    Good luck all :good:
