Take a brave man to oppose Galopin Des Champs, and I’m certainly in no rush to. He looked outstanding last time.
I’m with Stattler and Conflated for Cheltenham, but there’s a good chance any confidence I had will be extinguished here.
It’s not really my kind of bet, but at a push, the 8’s for Conflated appeals EW, and I might go that route, given it’s a bigger price than I expected.
I’ll no doubt end up betting The Big Dog EW for interest too, but as for now, holding off.
January 16, 2023 at 05:26 #1631136Will Mullins let the top 2 go to war ? , Stattler will have to try and get at GDC poss lack of stamina but does he have the gears , ourwith the top 2 , Conflated is a Ryanair horse for me , Kemboy is on the downgrade and Franco a handicapper , I’ll prob play Envoi e.w , I will be watching Kemboy as I’m wondering if Mullins will stick him in a chelt hcap
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
January 16, 2023 at 11:13 #1631139It’ll be interesting to see how the tactics unfold.
I imagine Kemboy will set the pace with Conflated just off him.. then Galopin and Stattler will take cover.
Fascinating race as Conflated loves Leopardstown and is no pushover. Stattler has all the stamina in the world. Then there’s Galopin who probably has it all.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 16, 2023 at 11:49 #1631141Conflated isn’t running
Straight to the gold cup is the plan I believe
January 16, 2023 at 19:53 #1631185Straight to the Ryanair …. If no Allaho , which in my eyes is looking more and more likely
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
January 16, 2023 at 20:15 #1631190Allaho has been reported to be fine and going straight to the ryanair last I heard
Think it was a quote from the owners
January 16, 2023 at 20:29 #1631192He,s a class horse but how many horses to the festival first time out
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
January 16, 2023 at 20:31 #1631193How many horses of allahos quality with this much in hand on the field have tried?
Willie will have him a lot fitter than he normally would be for the durkan
Anyway GDC wins this doing handstands given every other gold cup contender is swerving the race
January 16, 2023 at 21:13 #1631200He will FF and he,s def the most talented horse but to not get him out before tells us he’s had niggles for a number of months , you just hope he,s not to fresh alla Douvan
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
January 30, 2023 at 13:46 #1632972I’m looking forward to Galopin Des Champs winning this impressively, but as for my bet I will stick with my tried and tested Kemboy ew at 12-1
January 31, 2023 at 15:17 #1633107Decided to bet my old pal Any Second Now here.
Galopin and Stattler look miles ahead here. Very very difficult to be negative about the chances of Galopin, and I’m hoping that he finishes ahead of Stattler, as I can surely rip up my National ticket on Stattler if he wins this. I’m also going to have to top up on him for The Gold Cup, and I’d rather do that after a defeat here.
As for Any Second Now, I realise that he’s hard to make any kind of a case for, but I’m actually quite comfortable with betting him just now. It’s only for interest at the moment, with no guarantee that he’ll even line up, but worth noting that he always gets entries for these races at the initial entry stages but never survives until the Five Day Decs.
He’s still in there though, and I thought he was way more forward than usual on his last run, than he would usually be for that stage of the season. There’s also the very obvious issue that Aintree is on the horizon, but he’s still on a high enough mark, and I just wonder if they’ll try to get a big run out of him here, even as an 11yo. Highly unlikely I know, but a tentative bet at 25’s just now, and if he is declared, for all it might just be plain daft, I’ll definitely throw another few quid his way
Edit – Topped up

January 31, 2023 at 15:32 #1633110Makes a lot more sense than that cloth cap bet at Donny Saturday VtC

It’s a nothing race really isn’t it! How many are even going to run? We’re going to learn little to nothing about GDC’s ability to stay a truly run 3m race.
He’ll go off short odds and whilst I wouldn’t want to lay him I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he fails to win or even finish the race.
January 31, 2023 at 15:45 #1633117I’ve been trying to prepare a smart assed comeback about the Cloth Cap bet for the last few days, should it be mentioned. I couldn’t though.
Wry smile on my face as he back pedalled at the speed of a Nunthorpe winner. Never again till the next time.
January 31, 2023 at 17:54 #1633134I think you’ve got enough forum credit and money in the bank from the past month to be allowed the occasional howler mate
February 1, 2023 at 05:18 #1633189If GDC doesn’t win here then it’ll be the Ryanair , it’s a weak race , let’s face it he wins unless he can’t stay , and does Mullins really want his main 2 going to war
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 1, 2023 at 06:18 #1633192It is a really weak race, 12lbs in hand of the field although I suspect Stattler’s a bit better than his OR. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t clash though. Fury Road would at least give us some indication to where GDC sits relative to Conflated if he runs his race, he wasn’t beaten that far in the Savills Chase. I kind of hope he hoses up without coming off the bridle and we get no idea about if he really stays or can win in a battle. They’ll hopefully go really silly about his price for the Gold Cup so I can get stuck into something else on the day. Nothing against the horse and I’m not wild about his potential opposition but he’s not faced a challenge like a Gold Cup in his life.
February 3, 2023 at 20:02 #1633547Galopin des Champs looks a proper machine, but obviously no price to back him. Just like VtC I ended up with Any Second Now, who is very big price for someone who ran to a RP-rating of 170 last time. He almost gave a stone away to Noble Yeays at Aintree.
Any Second Now 40/1 EW
