OK, so who definitely runs from the O Brien camp? DOW anyway but its hard to read further intentions.

September 3, 2013 at 13:46 #450153First Aidan has to find out what Joseph wants to ride. Then they must clear out any possible challenge to Joseph amongst the declared runners from the yard. Only pacemakers allowed to run. Joseph no like Seamus beating him. So we wait and see. Horses who have not run this year will be amongst the possible runners from the yard.

"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Really, Interesting as lots of people are trying to lay Al Kazeem for crazy prices.

September 5, 2013 at 14:34 #450286It better be heavy rain.Scattered showers won’t do the trick.
September 5, 2013 at 16:36 #450291Well as long as firm disappears from the going description, he will run.

September 5, 2013 at 18:21 #450292Joseph OBrien has been "booked" to ride Declaration of War according to the Sporting Life.I wonder who his agent is? Surely it should read Joseph OBrien has been assigned Declaration of War.
September 6, 2013 at 09:02 #450310Well he has a good agent

Seriously though, reading between the lines from Lorcan Wyers comments the other day, i got the impression DOW might not run if significant rain. Seemed bizarre to me as he has soft ground form at least. I wonder though if it might be because they would really fancy Kings Barns under those circumstances and Joseph might want to switch.

September 7, 2013 at 19:05 #450493Oh well, hope kingsbarns is ok. They clearly thought he was ready to run a big race. The fugue is the real deal but I chickened out on betting due to ground.
wonder was there many people who really thought free eagle was a good bet at 8/1 for the derby

Could the non-participation of DOW be an economic decision for breeding fee purposes, once Coolmore knew Al Kazeem was taking part?
Non-participation makes it easier for Coolmore to claim (as they did after York) that DOW was a better horse than Al Kazeem and only lost the Eclipse through tactics. Did not want to take on the Charlton horse on what was thought by some to be Al Kazeem’s going.
If Declaration Of War only ran to the Eclipse form today he’d rightly be seen as a below average International winner.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 7, 2013 at 22:31 #450522Most decisions made by John the Big are economic ones. Coolmore is a money machine, however they do enter the buying market at times. Australia being an example.
September 9, 2013 at 01:08 #450674Incidentally talking about a business; Trading Leather has earned over 1.1/4 million(sterling and euro’s) this year so far. Not bad for the likes of Jim Bolger, owner, trainer and jockey family operation. Jim estimates he needs that alone to pay his staff, never mind feeding the horses.

I imagine it might serve a couple of needs. Im pretty certain Kingsbarns wouldn’t have run on good ground and they didnt want to be without a representative either. It definitly had little to do with DOW not being able to act on that imo.
