SNOWFALL 14/1
I got a feeling ST MARKS Basalica not get fit in time and if that the case 14s very big with power for this filly 1m2 no issue to and worth taking the risk here
August 25, 2021 at 09:02 #1558048If st mark missed this would they run him in the arc , or wait until the champion stakes?
August 25, 2021 at 09:25 #1558049Champion Stakes I think.
August 25, 2021 at 13:56 #1558065Yes the 1m4 would probably be too long alright
September 9, 2021 at 18:19 #1559687Small field but with st marks, tarnawa and poetic flare an intruiging renewal
Id say tarnawa is better over further
St marks likely wants a bit of rain
Poetic flare may make the running and could out speed them on this groundI want tarnawa to win as I’m on for the arc and breeders cup but not sure a small field 10f race is what she wants
So a watching brief not a betting race for me
September 9, 2021 at 20:38 #1559719Really disappointing field which we will learn nothing from. Tarnawa will probably find it too short, no idea if poetic flare will stay and smb will probably win despite the ground.
September 10, 2021 at 03:24 #1559778Good strategy FF. In my view, the connections will not be “all out” to win this race. The Arc has always been their overall goal for her this year. While this race is very prestigious, and she certainly has the class to win it, it’s nothing more than a stiff 10F “prep” for the Arc. Notice they didn’t go in any of the “usual” Arc prep races? I wonder why?
September 10, 2021 at 19:48 #1559898I’m quite a big Tarnawa fan and I think she’s quicker than people give her credit for. The angle I like with her which could be key is she’s coming into this off a very light campaign compared to the boys who’ve already had battling G1 successes. Dermot has clearly targeted the backend G1s as he did last year with her and I’d have no worries about this being any sort of prep for anything. For once I’m not complaining about a small field G1 as at least the quality is there.
September 10, 2021 at 20:25 #1559904Irish racing is dominant, and this is Irelands biggest race. This might not be a vintage renewal, but to call the Irish Champion Stakes a trial race is ridiculous.

September 10, 2021 at 20:52 #1559911Can see Poetic Flare making it himself and as such I doubt if we will get a truly run race to determine whether he does stay 10F or not.
Likely to be a burn up off the home turn but if the other two start playing cat and mouse with each other they might end up giving PF a bit too much rope and as such he could be hard one to peg back.
Intriguing race thats for sure.
September 10, 2021 at 20:52 #1559912If Patrick Sarsfield is the front runner it’l probably be ran slowly to suit SMB, I doubt poetic flare would go out in front as he has stamina doubts
September 10, 2021 at 21:38 #1559915How good is st marks basilica?
Dewhurst form is awful
French guineas rubbish (poetic flare ran no sort of race
French Derby rubbishIn the eclipse mishriff was absolutely cruising then fell in a hole like he was unfit
Addeybb didnt run anything like he canHad one run on proper gd ground and got beaten by thunder moon and Wembley
the jury is still out and his official rating of 127 is highly dubious
Judgement day for him tomorrow imo
September 11, 2021 at 12:15 #1560030He’s running after a setback so you never quite know if he will run 100%. Otherwise I would be quite confident he would win.
September 11, 2021 at 12:17 #1560032SMB will win this pretty comfortably IMO addeyb and mishriff ran there ratings fir m FF, you take smb out the race and you wouldnt say they ran no race
Doubt theres a 3yo this season that would get near him,
Not the greatest looking traveller, looks to only go through the gears when really asked to, but i really, really like him, will be an in play bet for me today
September 11, 2021 at 13:17 #1560045On RacingTV’s website under “Racecard” – Irish Champion Stakes, Timeform (VERDICT) makes the following commentary:
“Just the 4 runners but a belting renewal. ST MARK’S BASILICA coped very well with a small-field scenario when an impressive winner of the Eclipse and can land a fifth Group 1 success in a row. The Arc is presumably the main target for Tarnawa so it could be that the chief threat comes from leading miler Poetic Flare, whose pedigree provides plenty of hope that he’ll be just as good over this trip.”
Please read, and re-read the above, TTC and learn what proper critical thinking is as it will prevent you from thinking with blinkers on!
I did not use the word “trial”, but instead my explicit reference is to “prep” as in preparatory race for Taranawa just like it is alluded to by Timeform. The implication is as follows: the connections will not go out and maximally exert the horse just to win this race, notwithstanding its great reputation, when the bigger picture is the Arc. At the beginning of the year the connections made this known. They didn’t come out and say our primary target in 2021 is to win the Irish Champion Stakes, or any one else did for the matter (perhaps the likes of Patrick Sarsfield, because they have no hope anywhere else).
If Taranawa wins this race, great a big feather in their cap: broodmare value skyrockets, but if she doesn’t win then it’s not big setback losing a big race like this one. The bottom line is this: she needs a race and so it’s better here, strategically, then traveling to France to run in one of the Arc’s “trial” race.
BTW, to the outside world, Ireland’s biggest and most known race is the Irish Derby, not the Champions.
September 11, 2021 at 13:27 #1560047Tarnawa will be giving it absolutely everything today, and the Irish Champion Stakes is Irelands biggest race.
