Jonbon form looking iffy, Monmiral beaten twice since and Boothill beaten at odds on last time by Tommy’s Oscar who had previously been beaten 6L by a certain Banbridge.

Agree that he can’t afford to make that kind of mistake at Cheltenham but I do think Jonbon will have a real race on his hands and don’t forget that G1 Aintree race was only El Fabiolo’s 3rd ever start over hurdles and he was only a head behind Jonbon despite being hampered and making a mistake at the last.

It could be a contender for race of the Festival if they both (and others) bring their A games

The last time I checked, he beat El Fabiolo at Aintree.

Jonbon did not just beat Monmiral and Boothill. He absolutely slammed them. He is a worthy favourite.

If Banbridge runs in the Arkle, the best he can do is third place. Most bookmakers clearly think he is going to the Turners where he is now second favourite behind Mighty Potter.

If Jonbon jumps the way he has so far and El Fabiolo jumps the way he has so far Jonbon could win in a canter.

Didn’t say he wasn’t a worthy favourite just don’t think he is home and hosed as some might think – as I said the G1 Aintree run was just his third ever run over hurdles (off the back of a maiden hurdle win), he got hampered and made a mistake at the last yet was only beaten a head by a much more experienced Jonbon.

Yes Jonbon has been impressive in his chases but the collateral form has not been franked and that was what I was alluding to with the iffy comment.

Jonbon has iffy form ….. Yeah beaten once by CH and has looked a monster over fences …..and he,s beaten the Mullins horse after a hard Cheltenham race , your looking for something that’s not there

No, just pointing out that he is a very credible challenger and it is not a case of Jonbon just having to show up and I was referring to his chase forn being iffy, not his hurdle form.

Well, obvisouly happy to see El Fabiolo win, but I find it quite of strange to see him win this easy while making serveral errors. I think Jonbon fans can be happy after this race. His engine might be similiar to El Fabiolo, but his jumping is much better.

“Your looking for something that’s not there”

Hard race after Cheltenham is something you cannot be certain on. There’s a chance it’s the case.

You can be certain that El Fabiolo was having his second start, was impeded and had a pooor jump at the last.

I’d say the natural ability is in El Fab’s favour, does that mean he wins on the Tuesday? Not for sure, as he is untidy still over fences, but then today was an actual race. Jonbon hasn’t raced much at all. You could also have gotten like 5/1,11/2 and 6/1 while Jonbon was <2/1…

Why is natural ability in El Fabs favour ? , also plenty of chelt horses don’t take the form to Aintree/Punch , he did , you’ve said yourself he,s untidy , Jonbon isn’t , he,s a better chaser than hurdler , I get the feeling people are liking for chinks in his armour ….I can’t see any

Yes El Fabiolo needs to brush up his fencing technique a little but it is not a hard stretch to think that he can do just that and the manner of his victory suggests that he has got an real engine to overcome one bad mistake and still win as he did in a very good time on the day.

Jonbon’s jumping hasn’t yet been put under pressure so we quite simply don’t know just what he will do if that happens and whether you can’t see a chink in his armour are you telling me that you believe he will swan around Cheltenham in the same manner as he has done in his two chase races to date?

To do what El Fabiolo did at Aintree having had the in race problems would make me think he’s actually got more natural talent.

You can say Jonbon was tired but you’ve no actual proof of that. Yes some horses don’t back up their Chelt>Aintree runs, but many do back them up.

Jonbon to me hasn’t beaten much. The mighty Monmiral stuffed out of sight yesterday. Boothill?

The Irish Arkle was the best piece of form by a mile.

As LD says Jonbon hasn’t been challenged or pressured yet, so his jumping hasn’t been tested. What happens if he makes an error at some point, how will he react? El Fabiolo has proven that, and that’s important for a novice. For all, El Fabiolo has room for improvement still in that department.

Jack Jonbon has ran twice over fences , are you saying there’s no improvement in him ? , Jonbon hasn’t had a race over fences , he didn’t race the horses you mention ….he destroyed them , he has jumped better than El Fab to so far , play him if you want but as I said looking for chinks that aren’t there
