Armory had a trial there, only one crack of the whip I think. Hmmm where though? If Mogul bombs on tues Armory could be AOBs #1 derby hope

Nice little blow out before the irish derby on the 27th maybe?

The jockey on armory seemed more concerned with keeping siskin pinned to his inside than giving his horse a chance to win

It always leaves a sour taste in the mouth when you see the obrein battalion boxing siskin in then Lope y Fernandez being given a clear highway to kick clear

Fortunately the mafias plans didnt work

Monarch of Egypt worth following again after that , got a horrible path but was going well. Well done Siskin

Definitely looks worth following. Race couldn’t have gone any worse for him but he may well have given Siskin a run for his money had things gone differently.

Yeah I always give an extra cheer when the target horse slips the net and blasts past to win. Or when some non Coolmore unconsidered horse quietly travels up and wins while they’re all intent on trapping the target horse. Or the amusing mares’ hurdle ballsup where the pacemaker lets the wrong horse through (Coolmore jockeys too well practised to do this though). Or when the star horse is carefully protected to make its move….then runs a stinker and gets walloped lengths and lengths.

Basically I love watching team tactics in a non team sport going to shite.

Pretty sure armory wouldve come second had he been ridden in a way to show his best running

    But that wasnt his job

Siskin ran a great race and took full advantage of all the jiggery pokery going on to spoil his chances that backfired..what a great test of his nerves..today he showed how much he has moved on from that near disaster at Newmarket where he turned over in the stalls.
Great to see him win like that today..well done all backers. :good: Jac

In a week where the Comorant race showed the yard in a very poor light, underhand tactics failed to thwart the efforts of Siskin.
Despite having half the field, not running all of his horses on their own merits backfired. This will only be sorted out with sanctions.
The racing authorities over there seem gutless to these team tactics which are simply CHEATING and have gone on for years.
If Siskin could have got out earlier he’d have won by even further.

    Could be worse sportingsam

The obrien team could not exist

How boring that would be eh….

You pay the entry fee you ride anyway you want as far as im concerned, aslong as there not putting themselves and the horses in danger, it puts extra emphasis on the jockey making decisions, adds a little extra for me personally so i dont see why it needs to be sanctioned…

Peoples response to that is but punters back the horse and its not ran its race…. its no different to when a home team plays away and only tries to defend a draw, you know it happens but you still bet on them To win anyway, thats sport.

So Siskin, kept boxed in yesterday by a rider with specific instructions to do so, on a horse therefore not being ridden on its merits to compete in a race to the best of it’s ability is within the rules?

Watch the Cormarant race, an odds on favourite, visibly not being ridden to its ability to enable the outsider in the field a stablemate to finish in front. That is not ok and I dont see it as within the rules.

Sorry Ham this was cheating yesterday and during the week.

Run half the field by all means, employ tactics that control or dictate the pace. There is no need to obstruct, impede, hamper or ride into other horses.

I am just delighted that Siskin won despite such a blatant attempt to stop him.
Most of the six of the Ballydoyle runners will go on to better things in due course. How much better for the sport that they all tried their best yesterday?

What use is all those millions of Euros worth of bloodstock at your disposal if you cannot even cheat your way to the 2000 guineas?
If it was fair and square as you feel it was it didn’t work did it?

This wasnt about punters or betting Ham.
I watched the race and wanted to see the best horse win. Siskin’s jockey got out of the situation and won going away.
It could easily have gone tits up and then what kind of race would we then have had?
There were questions beforehand over wether the favourite would get the mile, how all the horses had come on.
Most of those questions were answered but we wont know about the one not allowed to compete yesterday….

I’ve only watched the race once so will obviously need to watch a few times more. Siskin won as his form said he would. How does he rate against the English 2000 Guineas runners. I don’t think yesterday told us anything we didn’t know. Vatican City took a huge step forward and looks a group one horse in the making. I imagine he’ll go to the derby and if he does stay must be a major player. I’ll watch the race a few times but I suspect a few of the O’Brien jocks weren’t singing from the same hymn sheet. Vatican City was really motoring at the end so unless they meet again will never know if h could have been a hell of a lot closer to Siskin. I’d take all the group one races with a pinch of salt due to the lateness of horses running. Horses like Vatican City could well turn out to the best but the next runs will tell us. I suspect that was a derby run out for armory and he has the same look as anythony van dyck to me and with no outstanding derby contender I suspect Ballydoyle will have at least four decent chances in the race. Delighted for Ger Lyons. Only the third Irish trainer outside Aiden to win the race in the past thirty years.

Having watched the race again Vatican City could well have won had he got a passage inside. Ballydoyle had the wrong jocks on each horse. Armory ran well considering the barging and monarch of Egypt had nowhere to go so I’d watch the next time he runs. I’m not so sure there was any tactics or if they were they cocked it up. Btw I’m sure Siskin would have lost the race if that was the us or France. Just saying.
