Wondered if anyone knows the identity of the announcer at Towcester last Thursday. Every gushing sentiment and inane question over the PA at maximum volume. Was trying to cover my ears to concentrate on the runners and riders. Suppose this is what we should expect for getting in free.
November 8, 2010 at 23:25 #327081That would be John Hunt

November 9, 2010 at 00:24 #327091Just found this thread…
November 9, 2010 at 08:13 #327104Roger Hart. Think there was a problem with the PA system which was the reason for the volume issue.
November 9, 2010 at 10:43 #327111Ricky,
I was the commentator that day but apart from running through the card over the public address an hour before the first race, I was only heard during each race. If the originator of this thread was refering to during the race sound, he could well have a problem with me but at other times? I plead not guilty.November 9, 2010 at 11:52 #327116Was it Matt Chapman?
The Beast has had his say if it was.

Matt Chapman was in America for the BC I think, so Roger Hart was doing the ‘honours’.
Think the Beast has a checkered history with Towcester – some choice Winstanley language at a Festival preview rings a bell.November 9, 2010 at 16:15 #327144Cheers John , I wrongly assumed your commentary was for both airwaves and on course
apologies …

November 9, 2010 at 20:06 #327186Hello John Hunt – no, not guilty at all – it was a blessed relief when he handed over to you.

Perhaps I shouldn`t judge Mr Hart too harshly if there was a PA problem
November 10, 2010 at 08:28 #327258Perhaps you shouldn’t judge the announcer at all – he’s just doing the job he’s ben employed to do by the course. He didn’t wander in off the streets, take over the PA mike and ad lib.
If you don’t like it, write to Towcester and tell them, but as it makes no difference whether it’s Roger Hart or Derek Thompson or Matt Chapman behind the mike, there’s no mileage in blaming the individual.

November 10, 2010 at 09:37 #327264Quote of the week in the Racing Post last week was from a distraught mother on a Towcester party bus whose child had the life scared out of them by a Matt Chapman "Yee-haa".
The mother said to him, "We were having a good time until you came along".
I know the feeling
