October 12, 2008 at 20:30 #184461What’s your opinion?!!!!!!!!
I have little to no experience with European racing.
My limited knowledge is not a reasonable base to formulate a constructive opinion.
I’ve seen Septimus win the St Leger in a canter
All The Good show a tremendous turn of foot in the rerun of the Ebor
Honolulu win with some authorityBut that is the extent of my personal viewing.
So as you can see I need some advice on the other runners to compare.
I think All The Good would need every bit of his weight advantage against Septimus, however I see him at an advantage with the extra time in Oz to prepare.
October 12, 2008 at 20:31 #184462Obviously I live in Australia.
October 12, 2008 at 20:48 #184463Sorry I did not mean to be rude.
start again
I live in Australia and viewing overseas racing is limited by live coverage to foxtel subscribers only. I have a mate with Foxtel but your racing is late at night so I don’t get to see much live racing.
I have recently joined your on line community to expand my experience of European racing and have found the numerous topics compelling reading.
However the discussion surrounding individual horses is often hard to find with limited debate.
I would enjoy opinionated discussion in your representatives, surely you have favorites and this leads to healthy debate.cheers
PeterOctober 12, 2008 at 22:06 #184478COMEON as Leighton would say.
Line them up, or is the task too subjective?
What about Mad Rush V’s All The Good then.
October 13, 2008 at 00:16 #184506I’d have Mad Rush over All The Good although it’s a tight call; the latter has had a later start to his season which may benefit him for an Antipodean campaign, but Cumani is in a different league to Bin Suroor as a trainer.

Hiya Peter
It’s as difficult to be certain from here to there either. Without knowing the nature of the tracks, the quality of the opposition, or even what constitutes ‘good’ going in your part of the world, you’d really need one of our better travelled members to give an accurate view..
Full lifetime form is available for all European entrants under the search facility on the Racing Post website:
http://www.racingpost.co.uk/horses/past_results.sd?crs=Prd&r_date=2008-10-12
and fwiw, here are their official ratings converted to Kilos.Septimus 55.45kgs
Honolulu 53.18kgs
Alessandro Volta 52.77kgs
Yellowstone 50kgs
Mad rush 51.6kgs
All The Good 49.55 kgs
Varevees 50.91 kgs
Profound Beauty 49.09 kgs
Bauer 48.18kgs
In the CC, Mad Rush would probably need soft ground to perform to his best over 12f, while All The Good would be a little more versatile, neither is probably good enough.
I’d be amazed though, if Septimus couldn’t give 5kgs or so to the other European challengers in the MC; the ground is unlikely to be a problem, and he appears to have been trained specifically for the race by the top team in our part of the world.
They thought they’d have won a couple of years ago with Yeats if it hadn’t been a stop go-pace; Septimus would be just about his equal, possibly a little speedier, carries slightly less weight, and has the insurance of a couple of pacemakers from the same ownership to ensure no hanging about. Not much of a price at around 5/1 in the UK, but I’d be surprised if there’s a better horse in the field.October 13, 2008 at 10:03 #184554I was of the opinion this would always be a hard race to call before reading your post Reet. Now I am totally convinced it’s total finger burner.
Septimus being an O’Brien horse will have many followers and although I never lay horses I would advice anyone looking to make a few quid lay him for as much as you can.
Like you I just can’t see him winning

Thanks Rory, they both made the final field for the Caulfield Cup and the barrier draw is tomorrow. I have had a splash on All The Good but I will put Mad Rush in with my novelty bets as well as you have them closely matched.

The 58.5 is some concern but he clearly deserves the weight. I have also had a splash at All The Good in the MC due to the manner in which he won last start in the rerun of the Ebor. It made sense as Purple Moon went very close to winning the Cup after his Ebor Run. On face value the overall record of ATG seems below the standard required but his last win was high class.
October 15, 2008 at 02:46 #184800I think he’s a very good horse but i’m not sure he’s quick enough. I would concentrate on the home horses.

What price would Septimus be over there, and would he be coupled with the other Coolmore runners on the Tab returns?

Aragorn
I reckon he’ll be quick enough alright.
Since his 3yo debut he has only been beaten twice in 7 races over 2m or less, once in his Derby debacle and the other when setting a stop/start pace in the Coronation Cup.
Be interesting to see how they justify the pacemakers though, in a jurisdiction where they’re supposed to be illegal?

Super Tab @$6.50 = fav
Centrebet @$7.00
Eskander and Doublebet both @$7.50Better odds than the UK.
On raceday you have the usual
Quinella 1st + 2nd any order
Exacta 1st + 2nd correct order
Trifecta 1+2+3 can include multiple runners in any order depending on your budget
Quartet 1+2+3+4 as per trifecta. The quartet can pay more than 100k if some roughies come home
ie All The Good @40/1
October 15, 2008 at 18:04 #184879Correct that All The Good 30/1 for Melbourne Cup
40/1 for Caulfield Cup this Saturday where he has Kerrin McEvoy aboard and for the lucky chinese, Cup is race 8, ATG is saddlecloth 8 and has drawn barrier 8. Will start favorite in Singapore!!!!
