Hello one and all! I hope you find some of my runners and stats in here interesting, it could include a British group 1, a class 6 handicap or an international angle as well as many stats I pull on. Hopefully we can find some interesting angles along the way and please feel free to join in as I pull out my weird and wonderful ideas.
To get the bleeding heart out of the way, I am a bi-polar sufferer and I can go a bit missing at times and disappear but I will do my best to be consistent on here and get up a few times a week and have some fun!
To start, I was impressed by Goldspur yesterday of Godolphin for Charlie Appleby starting off his career at Sandown. The conditions were testing for two-year-olds and they went little pace but despite the time he was an easy and impressive winner, winning clear by nearly 7 lengths going away. Well bred, a son of Dubawi, his dam was smart, a Lancashire Oaks winner (group 2) and a close group 1 Vermielle runner up on only her fifth and final start. He has a Derby pedigree with the dams stamina in there and it will be interesting how he progresses. Logical route would be to go Autumn Stakes next then Futurity and he could be up to that level. Charlie Appleby has started off some good ones at Sandown in the last two seasons and is 7 wins from 15 @ 46.67% to a profit with his two-year-olds at Sandown in 2020 and 2021. He has started off good ones like One Ruler, Yibr and recent group 1 National winner Native Trail in recent times and this boy looks smart.
We will see what sort price he turns up at in the future, but he is one with a lot of potential.
One he could clash with down the Futurity route is the progressive Frankel colt Triple Time for Kevin Ryan. Better with each start this year he has looked better and better with every race, and most importantly since going up in distance to the mile. He is from a family of ability, including group 1 winning Ajman Princess and group winners Cape Byron and Ostilio and he is proving better with each start. Interestingly, Frankel progeny this term so far are running remarkably when upped to the mile. So far he is 7 (5 individual winners) from 11 @ 63.64% to a profit and with 9 placed 81.82% have hit the frame so his runners are thriving for the mile and he is an interesting one as he goes up in class.
On another scale, dropping down a level or two. Kath’s Toyboy is one to give another chance too when returning to the AW for a winter. His last run is best forgotten and he went close before that 2nd at Kempton on the polytrak. He made a pleasing start to his career when starting off at Chelmsford and ran encouragingly in his first 3 novice races all on the all weather and I feel he is a type to come back to the surface and do well. Hughes is very strong at Chelmsford recording a 19.28% s/r there since training to a +22.29 profit and 2021 has been particularly strong, recording 10 wins from 40 runners at 25% to a big +50.83 profit and between the 18th of March this season and 17th of June he went on a run and recording 8 winners from 16 runners at 50% and it is a track his runners have to be noted at.
The Mighty Gurkha is a horse not to be forgotten this winter. He has had three more failed efforts on the turf this year and it has just not happened for him. He is an all-weather specialist and coming back this winter he could be an interesting one for the Sprint race for elders on Easter weekend. He was beaten in the 3yo sprint this Easter behind Diligent Harry and beaten 2L into 2nd is the furthest he has been beaten on the AW his only other defeat a nose second at Wolverhampton when carrying a group 3 penalty. Already a group 3 winner on the AW he has plenty of ability but he looks in need of an AW surface to produce that ability and hopefully he is targeted at the Sprint finals as there will be plenty of races for him along the way.
I’ll be back sometime soon to add some more, bet well and have fun people, TB
