Was having an early gander at this and Mr Mole looked very interesting.
Beat Melodic Rendevous a few months ago at Exeter. Some might say fortuitously but he’s obviously a decent horse and because of that one ‘ poor ‘ run when he ran green at Wincanton, he now heads to Sandown after a comfortable victory on a mark of 135.
My concern for the County Hurdle a few days later would be his inexperience.Other possibles are Shotavodka and Tominator
March 4, 2013 at 18:06 #431300Always try to look for one Mark, but never with any success.
I’d have a go at Whitby Jack, or First In The Queue. When I seen your thread, my first thought was Whitby Jack, and that was without seeing Saturdays entries, so supoose I’ll have to have a go now.

Maybe not a plot horse, but First Avenue looks interesting at 33’s as well.
Update – I’m now looking at Steps to Freedom, who I’ve also bet for The Champion Hurdle.
I’m sitting here with a seriously confused look, wish you hadn’t put this thread up Mark
March 5, 2013 at 00:36 #431355How about Henderson’s General Miller off 136. His highest rating was 163, after beating Menorah at levels in a Group 2 at Aintree.
March 5, 2013 at 00:36 #431356Repeat posting.
March 5, 2013 at 20:59 #431433Arnaud looks a likely one.
March 7, 2013 at 05:12 #431528Shammick Boy for me. Won well last time and hopefully will be able to cope with the 8 pound rise.
March 7, 2013 at 12:07 #431554Very sweet on Tanerko Emery. Him and a saver on Claret Cloak if comes up good ground.
March 7, 2013 at 17:49 #431586Despite most of the last winners have carried 11 stone or less, it’s hard to look beyond Mr Mole for this. Looks a young improver in a race with a lot of dead wood, and won easily last time out. Pine Creek would be my second choice.
March 7, 2013 at 18:10 #431587Looks like the best running of this race for a few years.
Many plot horses, many running miles below their highest ratings. It wouldn’t surprise me if a horse got beaten in this and still won one of the big handicaps at Cheltenham.
I’ll probably have a small interest in General Miller. There might be some even better-treated than him, but 20/1 for a low 150s horse running off 136 on a good surface sounds nice to me. At least he is straightfoward. Mr Mole looks a very hard ride.
March 7, 2013 at 20:00 #431599Providing the ground still mentions Good in the description I fancy Kazlian, only 2lb higher than when 4th in the Fred Winter, a race he really should have won with a more measured ride from Scudamore.
I notice the money’s coming for him now but 10/1 stll seems a decent price given the trainer.
March 7, 2013 at 20:28 #431602How about Barizan. nearly won the triumph. That win should have given him a bit of confidence. i know he has a lot of miles on the clock but is only 7.
March 8, 2013 at 19:29 #431698Pine Creek for me, 130 rating and maybe not battle hardened but does everything so easy so with luck i will get a jar out of the win.
March 8, 2013 at 20:40 #431706My confidence in General Miller has evaporated. Look at the state of the ground on the hurdles course today.
March 8, 2013 at 21:08 #431712The ex French Ferguson horses Pine Creek and Cayman Islands should relish the soft ground, Kazlian may like it too. Confidence in the top weights Mr Mole etc is waning now, the lower the weight the better if the ground is desperate.
March 9, 2013 at 10:38 #431784Says it all that there are so many different selections – I like Tominator though he will have to brush up his jumping a little – will love this big field (he did on the flat anyway) and I don’t think the ground is too much of a concern.
March 9, 2013 at 14:21 #431816I backed General Miller last time out and he let me down for a treble with Up and Go and Cue Card. He seemed to me to run in snatches a bit that day and although he came with a bit of a run at one stage his effort had to go down as pretty tame. I don’t fancy him at all now the ground has turned heavy. I tried to get away from Mr Mole in a reluctance to go with the obvious one but I can’t get away from him at all. If anything the heavy ground perhaps works in his favour despite his big weight. It was heavy the last time he won and he came through on the bit. This is much more of an ask but winning form on the going is a big factor and at 7/2 he will do for my sole bet today.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

The ground was terrible. 7 horses pulled up in each of the big hurdle races.
Still not sure courses should be having two or three day meetings in the winter if they can’t offer fresh ground for the major races on the Saturday.
