Already been discussed a lot, but Langer Dan, who landed this last year, is obviously going to be very popular.
The two I like though are Anyharminasking, and Suprise Package
Both hold County Hurdle entries, but they’re not the only ones who’ll be eligible for the bonus at Cheltenham, so not reading too much into that.
Really like Anyharminasking, and think he’s got loads more to offer. Already missed the 8’s, and best priced 13-2 right now.
Suprise Package was slightly disappointing at Leopardstown, but he’s one I’m happy to stick with, and I’ll definitely side with him if he goes.
Not tempted enough to have an Antepost right now, but of the pair, probably most tempted to bet the Irish Raider early at the 14’s
Anyharminasking
Suprise PackageMarch 8, 2022 at 00:11 #1586130As with last week if balco coastal runs il have a few quid on
Id be a bit miffed if langer dan runs, Skelton has 8 entries so it’s probably unlikely
March 8, 2022 at 04:26 #1586133Suprise Package is in great form and we are excited about him running in this. He had a runny nose before Leopardstown and we went hoping he had recovered (his counts were ok and his scope was fine) but, in the event, it came a few days too soon. By the Wednesday after he was a different horse and he has been since. Hoping the ground continues to dry out and that Miranda is declared to keep the weights down.
The travelling is always a concern but you don’t know until you’ve done it.March 8, 2022 at 10:50 #1586147I think you’ve got to give a decent shout for Lucky One.
Ex Mullins, ex Nicholls now with Dan Skelton.Won a Maiden for Nicholls (Dec 2020) (heavy) by 14L. Hammered 10lbs
for that from 122 to 132. In a Novice Hurdle last February, bolted
up by 20L. Hammered a further 11lbs to 143.Upped 2f next time when leading 2 out but easily passed by My Drogo
(now rated 155) and finished a well beaten 7th, trainer could offer
no explanation.Close up next time in a Grade 1 Novice Hurdle (2m 4f) at Aintree
in April last year, when took a crashing fall 4 out. He was out for
a good while after that, 245 days, and was transferred to Skelton.
Ran 2 very non convincing runs 1st time out for Skelton, but I think
he may very well have had that fall on his mind, it was a horror.I think he looked much more like his old self last month when ran well
for a long way and moved nicely into 3rd 3 out, but the 1st 2 had gone.
Well beaten 3rd over 2m3f (soft) but 4th was 26L back and the winner,
Good Risk At All was raised 10lbs, 2nd was Christopher Wood. He’s well bred, by Authorized, and runs off a mark off 125. That’s 3lbs
higher than his 14L win on g/s in December 20, and 7lbs less than his 20L
drubbing of Natural History in the mud in Feb last year. He’s (to my mind), over his right distance (2m) in a fast run race. If the
memories of his fall have faided he’s very well handicapped and will like
the conditions, soft at the moment with weekend rain forecast.Lucky One 40/1 Corals and Ladbrokes.
March 8, 2022 at 13:10 #1586149Mr Grey Sky is finally showing the form I thought he was capable of, but not until I left him out of my ten to follow!
He’s not a price I’ll be rushing in at, especially with better each way terms to come, but he’d be my selection at this stage.
March 8, 2022 at 16:45 #1586166Corals and Ladbrokes still standing 40/1 for Lucky One, if you can get more than 50p
on with those monkeys, I can’t get anything on with them but had a good touch with
Boylesports at 33s as I had a bit lying there. Looks like Willie Hill took a bit of
a dunt, down from 33s to 20s. Quite a few at the head of the market showing blue, as
you’d expect and Langer Dan seems on the retreat out to 11/2.I used to love this race when you knew that old Pipe would have one up his sleeve, he
was the wiliest of wily old foxes 🦊March 8, 2022 at 20:57 #1586198I agree with you BigG! Lucky One has been ridden quietly all season and you have to think it’s with a spring target in mind. I’ve had a small nibble at 33s but will go in again just before the off if he’s looking like racing more prominently.
March 10, 2022 at 19:23 #1586400Well at least we’ve got a runner TYT, only 2 Skelton horses stood their ground,
and Harry Skelton is on Lucky One. He’s best priced 14/1 now, that’s a fair bit
of stable confidence money. He must be going well and is so well handicapped if
he’s back to the horse he was before his fall. So far so good
March 11, 2022 at 15:07 #1586489He is still shortening up, BigG. A single figure price with some firms now. Dave Nevison has tipped him on RTV, although not sure if that is a good thing!
Missed the 40s but I managed to get a little bit on at 33s with Betfred. Thanks for the tip.
March 11, 2022 at 15:35 #1586491Mainly ‘keeping my powder dry’ this weekend with Cheltenham round the corner so for a bit of fun I threw a small ew dart at Lucky One at 25s based on BigG’s thoughts.
March 11, 2022 at 16:29 #1586497Best of Luck Cork and Mike, it’s turned into a bit of a gamble, I’m hoping
a lot of that is coming from the stable. If he’s back to near his winning
form he must have a great shout. Here’s hoping guys
March 11, 2022 at 17:01 #1586505It does have the look of a stable gamble, BigG. Let us hope they have laid him out to get their Cheltenham betting money!
March 11, 2022 at 17:11 #1586506I thought this could have been a lack lustre contest this year, but it looks a strong contest. I have the majority of ther field within 10lbs on recent form.
158 Hydroplane
156 Kihavah
155 Grisbi De Berce
154 Samarrive
154 Hystery Bere
152 Miranda
151 Onemorefortheroad
151 LebowskiHydroplane looks way too long to me at 33/1 e/w (40/1 in a place and 1/5 odds 7 places). Course and distance winenr in January and was struck into last time at Cheltenham. This season’s win was in heavy ground but has run creditably on good
Kihavah (20/1 e/w 1/5 odds 6 places) ran well for a long way in Hydroplane’s race at Cheltenham, and won nicely in a small field novice at Musselburgh. Cormier has franked the Cheltenham form with a cosy win in a decent event at Kelso, admittedly with very hurdling required!
March 11, 2022 at 17:47 #1586512I also waited all week to wait and see if it was declared, before then coming on here today, and saying that I took the bigger prices earlier in the week on BigG’s recommendation, even though I’ve had all week to mention it. I was very lucky, I managed to get 40-1, and the icing on the cake was that it was a free bet.
I’ve also taken Calico ew at 33-1 6pls. That’s also a free bet.
March 11, 2022 at 19:02 #1586528Calico and Samarrive for me. Calico is my Bet365 free bet.
Best of luck to all
March 11, 2022 at 19:24 #1586534Hoping balco coastal drifts tomorrow
Too short for my liking atm
11/2-6/1 and il be tempted to part with a few pennies
March 11, 2022 at 19:51 #1586538Some thoughts/updates on Suprise Package in this: http://www.cheltenhamdream.com/blog-diary/2022/3/11/confidently-realistic
