Two of the most battle tested Champion Hurdlers…is there any wonder why they still resonate with us some 40+ years later

They both look a lovely chance.

If only Led Zeppelin had retained the same old fire when they regrouped.

    Altogether – it’s a whole lotta 💕

I’m old enough to remember Monksfield finishing 3rd under top weight in the then Sweeps Hurdle at Leopardstown. What the article doesn’t say is that the course was an absolute quagmire that day, and any other meeting might have been called off. A penniless student at the time, I was soaked and frozen, but it was worth it to see one of my equine heroes.
We have definitely lost something precious; the festival has become a monster, and winning there dwarfs everything else during the year, so horses are trained with only that in mind. Also think the Punchestown festival has had a similar tho lesser effect.
Captain Christy, Pendil, Night Nurse, Sea Pigeon, turned up everywhere, found no dishonour in defeat, and we loved them for it.
