I don’t think Maybe stayed the distance but she was *ahem* ‘very unlucky’ in running……and there was understandably a lot of inexperience on show.
Camelot could be worth taking on if a quick ‘change of luck’
doesn’t take place overnightAlright, alright…….I’m no young jockey basher but from what I saw even allowing for the difficulties of Epsom it was a terrible ride.
Camelot in trouble on this evidence.
June 1, 2012 at 15:59 #406264agree.
a horse with that much speed needs to be up with the pace, not last. i think somebody with more experience could have got closer on the horse personally. as soon as she came round the corner i knew it wasn’t going to happen.
in a way glad that an outsider won and also placed, purely for ten to follow reasons lol.
June 1, 2012 at 16:30 #406270I’ve taken a while to come around to the idea but I’ve finally come down against Camelot tomorrow. I’m going to try and hunt out some value.
I cant decide how good his guineas win was, but for my money the jockey hasn’t the experience to get around Epsom trouble free anyway.
June 1, 2012 at 16:37 #406273Joseph got yet another ban for careless riding.
Value Is EverythingJune 1, 2012 at 19:59 #406308His ride on St Nicholas Abbey earlier this year was shocking.
Will the same happen tomorrow

I was shouting at Buick on The Fugue for similar reasons. A problem being that he’d just won from off the pace – a quicker pace – on Gatewood and rode the same race on The Fugue. Never going quick enough.
A poor Oaks.
June 1, 2012 at 21:36 #406329Just watched it back and I’ve changed my mind…….not a terrible ride.
Getting banned for early race scrimmaging is obviously not ideal but that could happen to anyone and apart from that there was nothing really to complain about and an aerial shot near the finish shows that if she was good enough Maybe could have won……..she appeared not to stay even in a slow run race.
Sorry Joseph,I was wrong and as you have shown before if the horse is good enough so are you.
Memo to self: Second impressions are often better than first ones.
Camelot will be fine.
June 2, 2012 at 04:20 #406351Have you changed your mind about the penalty for careless riding? Is Epsom the course to be careless on?Joseph is a child amongst men. Wait till Ascot when the real jockeys converg.I am going with Rhyan tomorrow.
June 2, 2012 at 10:45 #406391I cannot imagine for a fraction of a second that Joseph would be riding today if there was any doubt about his competence or experience
AOB has a mini epsom at home to practise , no stone will have been left unturned
have no worries

I’ve no strong opinion of young Joseph, other than his build will in all likelihood preclude anything more than a fleeting career on the Flat; and that like Sam Waley-Cohen he will always suffer an excess of negativity given that so many seem to find the wafts of nepotic odour rather disagreeable
As for today’s win on Camelot, it was – to coin a cliche – an armchair ride that even the least competent jockey would have had difficulty ballsing-up; and as such gives no inkling as to whether the lad is good, bad or indifferent
A straightforward job completed in the manner one would expect.
Enjoy your evening Joseph
June 2, 2012 at 17:46 #406477James Willoughby’s forthright post-racing comments on RUK (media hyped young jockeys) yesterday evening made most interesting listening.
He’s right imo.
June 2, 2012 at 21:33 #406509i really dont know what to make of joseph as a jockey sometimes i look at him and think he could be as good as any and other times i am not so sure but good luck to the lad he seems a very likeable lad and a modest person best of luck to him
