an interesting little book from ‘Racing Ahead’ magazine (an excellent read in itself) called ’20 Super Systems’ for £10.
It appears to be a compilation of systems which have appeared in the magazine over the years and, interestingly, several are Formcast or Spotform based and others including a VDW (Van Der Wheil) variation are based on the Racing Post.
Most, I think, would appeal to followers of the ‘Systems’ area of TRF and personally I feel I can benefit from some of the common-sense approaches implicit in the systems.
I would be interested to hear from any others who have found this little book useful.Powered by Linux
July 10, 2010 at 11:56 #305813Hi there,
elcartero
,
Although I have not read it or heard of it your recommendation is good enough for me and so I have ordered it from "High Stakes" The gambling bookshop and certainly will look forward to reading it even if I don’t make a fortune.

writes . . . "an interesting little book . . "
Well
elcartero
I have just got back into The Badlands (not too difficult, getting out is harder) and the interesting little book was waiting on the mat for me.
I have not read it yet, have been too busy (getting out of the stab vest etc.) but did open the envelope in anticipation.
First impression is it is more of a booklet than a book (little or not), I see if you ignore the title page it really starts on page 4 and ends on page 39 so here is hoping the content is good

July 21, 2010 at 20:48 #307813Update to the earlier posting.
Well it has not taken too long to run through the booklets offerings, and I think there is something there for everyone, including a couple of greyhound systems.
Also there are some Dutching suggestions which I have found very interesting.
The booklet majors on the Racing Post, Daily Mirror and Daily Mail for the tools to run the systems.
Although it is a skinny little thing for £10 I do think there could be years of fun and maybe profit to come from it.
I have very quickly found one idea and opened a spread sheet to "paper trade" but checking todays results could have had two winners from three selections.

January 12, 2011 at 17:54 #335587Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead chaps.
I too have recently purchased this book, and im trying to decide which system suits me best to trial. I work 8-4 most days, and so i need a system where i can identify selections the night before, and then place the bets either before i go to work, or during my lunch break.
So far systems 1, 11 and 16 have caught my eye., and i plan on trialling all 3 during January to see if any stand out.
Have you guys had any further thoughts on this booklet since this thread was started?
January 12, 2011 at 19:08 #335602Hello there
Skinnyman 9000
and it is nice to see a new guy around.
I am away from home at the moment and do not have the booklet to hand and so cannot refer to the system numbers.
As you are already aware the systems are mostly built around D. Mail’s Formcast a paper I do not take but
elcartero
does and he tells me Formcast is sadly, very much out of form and has been for some while. What we do know from experience is Formcast’s success rate fluctuates and we cannot assess the reason for this but to speculate that it may be Nigel Taylor does not always work the ratings but as I say this is speculation and am sure the weather conditions have not helped ratings in general.
The next most used system component of the booklet is SF & F of the Mirror. I have not been able to get to the bottom of how these horses are selected but if any member/reader knows I for one will be please to hear.
From what I understand from
elcartero
SF & F are in better form than Formcast and would suggest they could be a better place to start.
As with all these system suggestions they could or should all be taken with a "pinch of salt" and as commonly proffered once in the domain of "betters" they soon lose their value.
May I therefore propose you pick a couple or three from the booklet which look as if they may suit your own style of betting, trial them and then tweak as you see fit, it may be possible to combine elements from two sytems in order to create your own unique method.
I will be home by the weekend and will check the booklet and get back to you.
Edit – P.s.
Brownowl’s
Multiple Selection System
– is so close to any you will find in the booklet and will be a very good starting point.
Races of 8.9.10 runners only
SF & F selections considered
Min. D. Mirror forecast price of 6/1
Bet e/w in multiples
Now you see, multiples or e/w betting may or may not be your style but by trialing the system you will get a feel for the general idea and adapt in due course.
If memory serves me well there is a system in the booklet for a "one a day" selection by picking the one horse (SF/F) at the largest price.

January 13, 2011 at 20:09 #335773Hello (again)
Skinnyman 9000
System 1 – variation 4 could suit you and your "time line"
These so called quick returners I would think are perhaps most suitable for FLAT racing and perhaps "sprinters" rather than the stayers. You have a problem regarding the RP betting forecast and am sure it could easily be substituted with the Sporting Life forecast which is available the night before.
Variation 5 is a classic and very old system which I have used in the past with plenty of "joy" both Flat anf NH but is improved by being top rated – perhaps use RPR or Massey, however
elcartero
is at present in love with HRB.
I have used System 11 and although it makes sound sense my results were mixed. Again see no reason why S/L forecast cannot be supplemented when RP is not available.
System 16. I have not used and is therefore unfair to comment.
Good luck

DOUBLE TOP
Here is an idea
Skinnyman 9000
plucked straight from the booklet with your timeline in mind
I have looked at the Massey ratings for tomorrow (Friday) and selected "top rated" only in races of any type (handicap – non handicap – NH – Flat AW etc.) with a max of 8 runners (no given reason other than a reduction filter but easily reversed by taking a min. of 8 runners and any maximum).
Cross referenced with RP web site & TopSpeed top rated.
One selection only: –
ARMY OF STARS 1.00 Lingfield.
Sporting Life forecast it as 2/1 favourite and tips it.
Who knows!!!!
But it is an example how you can adapt to your timeline.
