Whether you like Dettori or not, ( I personally am not his greatest fan), there is no doubt that he is certainly the best human PR that racing has to offer. I would rate Moore as a far better jockey, but who would the man in the street / man on the Clapham Omnibus (Denning), recognise , Dettori or him ?
For that reason alone, we should respect him in my viewSeptember 13, 2011 at 21:23 #370886The only reason I like to watch him performing his ‘flying’ dismounts is in the vain hope that I can hear an almighty ‘crack’ and watch him writhing about in pain on the unsaddling enclosure floor.
What a nice man you are. And what a glittering ornament to the Forum you will doubtless be.
That particular paragraph was written in an extremely ‘tongue-in-cheek’ attitude. I can’t believe that you decided to take it literally!! Obviously sarcasm doesn’t sit too well on this forum.
I sincerely would not wish that sort of thing to happen to anybody….under ANY circumstance. Ever.
The serious point of my post was mainly the final one that I made.
Anyway, thank you very, very much indeed for taking it upon yourself to promote yourself to the position of this site’s moral policeman. You are very good at it.
Maybe I should leave out the sarcasm…and maybe you should stop jumping down people’s throats following one comment. If there was a continual amount of similar post’s, then I could understand it.

No it wasn’t, as the rest of your post showed. But well done with the attempted save.
September 13, 2011 at 22:31 #370895This is a man who was pulled from the wreckage of a fatal plane crash. He might reasonably be expected to show relief and signal wellbeing regarding his escape from a very bad fall.
This display is not mutually exclusive with concern and regret for the horse.September 13, 2011 at 23:08 #370897"rory":3ok3v13y wrote: That particular paragraph was written in an extremely ‘tongue-in-cheek’ attitude. You are a complete idiot. You assume to know exactly what everybody is thinking. Only a simpleton…like yourself…could think someone would wish that on another person.
And as for the rest of the post…I stand by it in it’s entirety.
By the way, you are not in charge of grading people’s ‘attempted save’. You are not important enough. You are just in charge of shaving that stupid beard off as it makes you look like a child molester.

Very poor. Rory is, imo, far from being a simpleton or an idiot. He’s a well respected member of this forum who sadly these days doesn’t post his wise words enough.

Well it is a pity he isn’t ‘wise’ enough to realise that I put that part of my statement in as a joke. My sense of humour has often been misunderstood or taken out of context. I would have thought that, in his wisdom, he could have accepted my explanation as truthful….at least until I gave him evidence to the contrary.
No…he thought it more wise to carry it on. Very sage like, I must say.
Well, just so that you know…you lot have won…I think it’s best if I just leave the forum completely now. I’m genuinely very sorry if I have offended anyone. I’m used to a little more good humoured banter than this and I think I have chosen the wrong place for it.
Happy punting!!

I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysSeptember 21, 2011 at 22:51 #371610I don’t post as much on this site any more for a number of reasons. However, any temptation to return to the fray is instantly worn off when I read threads such as this and comments such as ‘I hate xxx and I hate xxx’ and ‘you’re an idiot.’ How old are people on this forum?
There are many people and public figures I dislike. However, barring the worst of criminals and those who have severely personally slighted me, I can’t say I ‘hate’ anyone. Personally I’ve always been a Dettori fan, not just because of his riding talent but for what he has done for racing over the years.
I appreciate he’s not everyone’s cup of tea personality-wise but to suggest that someone you don’t know personally, who has chosen to spend their whole life around horses (and owns them) that they don’t care about them is churlish and ridiculous.

has pointed out, if we want to minimise the impact of the idiot threads and moronic posters then we need to up our own game. Currently we’re getting a post-Silly Season deluge of numb-brain nullity, but we may hope that a few sensible, thoughtful threads may rejuvenate the Forum. I hope so at any rate. I’m tired of standing up to be counted, and pelted for my pains.
September 22, 2011 at 21:37 #371702I made what I thought was a valid comment; that he isn’t quiet around horses & shows off with his flying dismounts. I have seen more than one horse look startled. Obviously he is around horses more than I as it is his job to ride them, but I do not like to see his dismounts, they are unnecessary.
September 23, 2011 at 22:29 #371817I know Frankie Dettori is racing’s darling and it now seems to be compulsory for all television presenters to say how he is racing’s greatest ambassador but do Clare Balding, Rishi Persad, Mike Cattermole, John Francome and Jim McGrath really have to be quite so fawning?
I hate those pre-recorded bits for the big Qipco races (on both Channel 4 and the BBC) where Frankie gives a few banal, self-evident "insights" into the layout of the track, helpfully pointing out that the course turns to the right and then to the left, not forgetting the all-important tip for the punters that the jockeys must get themselves psyched up for the final push to the line. Then, believe it or not, up comes the winning line.
Clare Balding seems to think Frankie (or "young Lanfranco", as her ex-colleague, Jimmy Lindley, used to call him) is little short of a baby-faced deity. He, of course, rewards them by kissing the camera, making faces and generally acting the fool.
Meanwhile, if he’s not got a ride for a couple of races on Channel 4, he’ll turn up squashed in between good old Jim and John for a few more platitudes.
The flying dismounts may be a crowd pleaser but there seems to be plenty of evidence that the cheeky chappie is not quite such a charmer away from the cameras. His accent is enough to give you the pip.

Nurse, the screens.Five paragraphs, three saying that you don’t like him because other people like him a lot, one saying the scripwriter for the Qipco advertisements is not very good at his job, and the director is wanting an exuberant "actor" to be something he is not – dull, and one hinting at something scary in the woodshed that cannot be spoken of. You might want to chill out a little and luxuriate in the knowledge that you are not among the common herd, but have more discerning taste than we plebians in the majority.
September 24, 2011 at 09:43 #371853Must admit, not being a great fan of flat racing, I was not aware that Frankie Dettori was a particularly cold and unfeeling guy. I have always quite liked him, and think his flying dismounts are a bit of fun.
But I do think that generally flat jockeys do tend to regard their mounts as racing machines far more than the NH jockeys. I suppose they’re never sitting on them long enough to develop feelings for them.
I really don’t think Frankie is anything like as bad as Lester Piggott was. I will never forget seeing the same thing happen to him and the horse didn’t go down for several strides but was clearly running on the stump end. Horrible!! And even more horrible was finding out that Piggott mentioned at the start that the horse "didn’t feel right" on the way down, but didn’t consider getting him checked out. Cold , hard and unfeeling and I’ve hated him ever since. Frankie’s not in his league (IMHO).
Have to say I can hardly believe how this thread on a personal opinion turned into a mud-slinging argument involving racist accusations! Ridiculous and childish.
September 24, 2011 at 13:57 #371901Wasn’t overly impressed with his ride on Rakasa yesterday – from the moment the gate opened he was looking down, she never went a tap but he still let her gallop nearly 6f before pulling up. He said later she’d broken down. Don’t know if she had to be destroyed, RP doesn’t say.
September 24, 2011 at 14:28 #371905Hey, at least Frankie was OK, though. He IS racing’s best ambassador so let’s just be thankful he’s still there to grin at the camera.
September 24, 2011 at 15:48 #371914Just read the entire thread, what utter ….
Dettori isn’t exactly my cup of tea, not that I like tea anyway.
How dull if everyone were like Ryan and how nausiating if everyone behaved like Frankie. But surely variety is the spice of life? Not so long ago Ryan got a bullet through the head by forumites for being an introvert. Now it’s wrong for Dettori to be extroverted. Both said to be "arrogant". Well, you’ll find most experts in their field have arrogance, they need self belief.I believe this "arrogance" has niggled some on here and their judgement flawed because of it. Seeing what they want to see.
How anyone can take offence by Frankie telling everyone he’s physically ok baffles me. Plain fact is Dettori might be the most horrible or nicest bloke you’ll ever meet. Unless you’ve spent a considerable amount of time in his company, you simply don’t know.
I’ve "met" several jockeys, trainers and racing personalities, but still don’t judge them. Disliking someone on the evidence of a few seconds TV coverage is absolutely crazy. It tells me more about the forumite than Frankie.
