Nobody’s talked about the Maplewood Hurdle on Sunday..
Bit of an unsatisfactory race IMO (Partially cos Clopf got beat)… Nothing seemed to get into it from off the pace and i’d fancy it would be a different result were the race ran again in better conditions..
Writing fast as i’m about to go to a meeting so not much in the way of analysis I know!!!!
November 20, 2007 at 15:57 #125889Didn’t see anything there that excited me especially to worry the top few in the Champion Hurldle, Katchit included, which I find reassuring.
For a Grade 1 hurdle it didn’t appear to have much class about it.
November 20, 2007 at 16:05 #125893The ground was atrocious (RP time-based ground was Hvy) so while the result itself will have no bearing on the Champion Hurdle, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the horses involved won’t.

…then of those involved, which ones?

November 20, 2007 at 22:16 #125980For those of us on here that rate Clopf as a possible CH contender, myself included, I don’t think we should be too worried about Sunday’s race. Edward O’Grady was pretty relaxed about the run beforehand on ATR where he stated that he wasn’t anywhere near peak fitness, and was merely using it as a "stepping stone" to other things. (Another example of non-triers ala Aces Four?)
Not sure what the ground was like either, but he certanly travelled round pretty well before not being able to quicken up – precisely how Mr O’Grady predicted. I would certainly hope that he would be finishing ahead of Jazz Messenger and Farmer Brown if they were to meet again.
November 20, 2007 at 23:35 #125998He can’t have travelled any better than Farmer Brown. I think that horse is crying out to be backed at 33’s for the Champion.
