I think people in this industry are afraid of the notion that it is possible for genuine tipsters to make consistent profits. An awful lot of unresearched codswallop talked on this thread already.
Hugh Taylor is one of the few consistently profitable tipsters, and it’s possible to get his prices or close to them if you’re half arsed.
There’s no easy money in sports betting, you need to work for it. You can’t expect a free tipster working for one of the two major racing channels to give tips to the masses every morning, make profits, and for them not to shorten dramatically in price as it becomes apparent the guy is good.
Hugh has made consistent profits all year, his analysis is often excellent. He’s one of the few people whose opinions I respect when it comes to race reading as a result. Nice guy too. Couldn’t do his job much better, am not afraid to praise a job very well done.
September 29, 2009 at 09:52 #250769Hugh hit the jackpot yesterday with 3 out of 3 advised at SP 2/1,15/2 and 8/1. I do his selection in e/w doubles and trebles, they’ll be pleased to see me in Corals this morning !!!
September 29, 2009 at 11:34 #250772Originality is still a newly evolving concept, I see.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
September 29, 2009 at 11:51 #250775Yeah noticed this last night. Its not so much the fact he gets winners, its the explanation he gives for his selections (even his losers) that is of interest. He thinks outside the box and hardly ever do you hear things like "Horse X has a 5lb turnaround in the weights on Horse Y". He seems to pay a lot more attention to race reading, how a race was run rather than weights etc.
I am not one to go backing someone else’s tips (morally, I would feel I am cheating myself) but I can try and learn from someone who is very astute.
September 29, 2009 at 12:11 #250777Good profit on the month of 26.54 points. Full analysis of the year posted up on ATR. Decent performance.

He is amazing, but don’t see why he needs to market himself.
October 1, 2009 at 00:08 #250985Fella has had a few winners but a few questions need answering?
Why dont ATR publish P&L and some proof at the prices available. Maybe ask the best price firm how much they laid at those odds?
Why did McEvoy bin him as his agent?
Why didn’t he take on other jockeys if he was so good? What job did he do before becoming the new pricewise?
I remember Matt Doyle the Faro of the FormBook was another ATR mirage and he is now a stiff for SkyBet!
Taylor will be back subbing copy this time next year

Kerrin McEvoy returned to ride in Australia, so I don’t know that Hugh’s services would have been all that useful. And as for Matt Doyle, I would hazard a guess that napping losing 5/4 shots day in and day out wasn’t paying the bills (he’s still got nothing worthwhile to say, mind).
October 1, 2009 at 00:51 #250989What has being an agent who ‘got binned’ by his employer got to do with his tipping prowess?
October 1, 2009 at 09:25 #251022As has already been said Kerrin returned to Australia.
Hugh wasn’t "sacked".
Hugh had no desire to take on any more jockey clients. It was a question I asked him over on Talking Horses. He didn’t know how agents, like Dave Roberts, with many jocks on their books managed it.

October 1, 2009 at 13:01 #251036Why did McEvoy leave so suddenly then. Big mystery aint it. Why hasnt Traylor got any other jockey clients, big mystery aint it!
October 1, 2009 at 13:25 #251039No.
What is not a big mystery is that, with a very few exceptions, being a jockey’s agent is a lot of hassle for not much return.
Seems to me as if Hugh is instead making a very good fist of something that may well be more rewarding in a number of different ways.
October 1, 2009 at 14:07 #251041Errr no that’s totally incorrect. Being a jockeys agent can be highly rewarding. I know enuff of em and none of em starving. So yes you have backed up your mate but no you haven’t answered the Big Mystery questions. Why would taylor work for ATR buttons if he knew the score?
October 1, 2009 at 14:35 #251047He is not my "mate". I have never met him.
I have no idea what he gets paid by ATR, and nor, I suspect, do you.
I do know that those jockeys agents of my acquaintance, while not "starving", have neither been flush with money nor especially glowing about their profession. It was enough to warn me off doing it myself.
Quite why giving up a sideline role of being a jockey’s agent – which sometimes seems to consist of little more than fellating the egos of trainers and owners – in order to be a full-time and very good pundit/analyser should be considered anything other than a positive move is beyond me.

Are you sure that your first name isn’t Wan?

Steady on lad, this aint the BF Forum. That kind of petty insult has no merit whatsoever. You sure that you are not Mrs Taylor or a relative? - AuthorPosts
