Five runners from the David Jeffreys stable into odds-on
This is just too unreal to be true….
March 22, 2021 at 09:33 #1531901And the trainer knows nothing about it.
As Dorothy Parker once said “And I am Marie of Roumania”.
March 22, 2021 at 09:37 #1531902Bookies trying to generate a bit of interest on a slow day.
March 22, 2021 at 09:56 #1531905Two of them are entered in the same race which reduces the chance of a 5-timer a tad.
March 22, 2021 at 09:59 #1531906I know the handicapping of horses is receiving plenty of attention in the UK but just look at the Jeffrys Plumpton runner Blood Eagle
In his 4 starts over hurdles he has been pulled up, beaten 79L, 102L and 157L and has been given a handicap mark of 50, and is running today off the equivalent of 72. This horse should not have been given a handicap mark at all. There is not enough evidence in those hurdle runs to develop a sensible mark.Getaman has ran 3 times over hurdles and beaten a combined total of 330L
Perfect Predator and Not not Seamus were once decent performers so if they reproduced their best they might have a chance.
But ive noticed all of them drifting back out in price now
March 22, 2021 at 10:12 #1531909What do we reckon? The bookies will say they are facing a £10 million pay out. Then when the last one gets beaten they will say they were facing a £2 million pound pay out.
March 22, 2021 at 11:00 #1531911I wouldn’t rate these horses at all. No need to encourage trainers and owners to run such bad animals. I would stick the no-hoppers in barrier trials or whatever you want to call them, until they show some proper form.
March 22, 2021 at 12:20 #1531912” Five runners from the David Jeffreys stable into odds-on “
From what the RP article says, and looking at current prices, not one of the runners concerned went odds on so not quite the sensational gamble the opening sentence promises……….
……however, if there are four winners by 4.30 this afternoon I’ll be as impressed/gobsmacked as everyone else –
including the trainer.March 22, 2021 at 12:59 #1531918I agree with Thewexfordman that a horse who has got no nearer than 79 lengths, even in open maiden or novice company, hasn’t done enough to be given a rating. Too often both in GB and Ireland such horses are given a rating having not been ‘raced’.
March 22, 2021 at 13:11 #1531920First horse tailed off with a circuit to go. Ran more like a 100-1 shot, which can also be expected from the remaining four runners.
March 22, 2021 at 13:15 #1531923Rob, in Irish racing a horse cannot be given a mark of less than 80. No matter how bad the horse is, it will not be dropped any further.
In the UK it seems that a horse can be given as low a mark as is felt warranted.
I’m sure there are pros and cons to both methods
March 22, 2021 at 13:26 #1531925I suppose two people put a yankee on and the bookies have hyped it up.
With the shops being closed all these alleged bets would have to have been placed online. The algorithms would have picked up anything suspicious before a huge gamble could have started.
If you really thought you could land a touch with a 50/1 chance, why would you put it in multiples?
March 22, 2021 at 13:46 #1531928A £6 accumulator on the 4 of them who shortened most would have the bookie with a liability of £1.08 million. This was all a bookmakers pr exercise from the start.
March 22, 2021 at 14:08 #1531930Another one stuffed with a circuit to go.
March 22, 2021 at 16:15 #1531942A bookies plot
where’s the stewards.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 22, 2021 at 16:30 #1531945Or alternatively, a punters plot.
Lay out the grand sum of £50 on some multiples overnight, then sit and lay the same horses at unrealistic low prices all day long. And maybe back the likely winners as well at enlarged prices.
March 22, 2021 at 16:42 #1531948I like it AP…
