Another horrible list with 13 horses this time including the tenth or eleventh Galway fatality in We Plead The Fifth.
I understand this is a weekly list, but to have ten horses on average (equals over 500 per year) every week is extremely bad. How can you explain over 500 dead athletes to people that are trying to fall in love with Racing?

This is a complete list though , I assume illness , accidents at home stables , and I’ve seen some listed in past quite old . Be a few too slow but dangerous to rehome .
That being said I’ve crossed Galway off my bucket list as that looks way OTT .

Ruby, your simple extrapolation does not provide an accurate figure; the macabrely monikered Race Horse Death Watch Ireland, whose name suggests they aren’t going to put a positive spin on things, has a far lower figure:

And, of course, there’s the real elephant in the room: these horses aren’t wild beasts that were rounded up from some sunny savannah on the day of the race. If horse racing didn’t exist, these horses wouldn’t exist.
