After the aborted competition to guess how much Hunt Ball would sell for, is it worth reviving it to have a go at Guesstimating/Estimating how much Oaks winner Dancing Rain will sell for when she goes under the hammer at the Tattersalls December sale?
Just to spice the equation up, she is in foal to the mighty Frankel and could be carrying a future star. I haven’t got a clue where to start in terms of a price but perhaps other members could nail it within a grand?
Just a thought.
ps Frankel-Dancing Rain, if it were my foal I’d call it Power Shower.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 20, 2013 at 13:37 #448909No idea about price, but name wise I’d go for ‘Freaky Leaky’.
August 20, 2013 at 15:37 #448922if she turns up at the auction i will be very surprised
August 20, 2013 at 18:34 #448939Interesting to know what her reserve is. But to start the bidding 2.5mil assuming this meets the reserve, which it may not.
August 20, 2013 at 19:48 #448945Who was the last Oaks winner to be sold at public auction & how much did she make?
August 20, 2013 at 22:12 #448981Ramruma, winner of the 1999 Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks, was sold in 2003 to John Magnier for 2,100,000gns.
She was carrying a Machiavellian filly who was called Catherine Linton. She was devoid of ability on the racecourse and has bred only one modest winner.

Whom was "devoid of ability on the racecourse"? Do you mean the foal? What about any others.
Cheers.

I’d call it Wet Dream
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

Her best offspring looks to be Flying Cross (3rd 2010 Irish St. Ledger), otherwise little of note. She is supposed to have a colt entered in next year’s Derby but can’t find actually listed in training
August 21, 2013 at 22:32 #449099Sorry I meant that Catherine Linton was hopeless – Ramruma’s foal that she was carrying when bought.
Yes Flying Cross was decent enough. He at least won 2 races and 3rd in Irish St Leger. Last recorded in David Pipe’s stable but not run for him.
December 3, 2013 at 12:43 #460670She sold for £4.2 Million to John Ferguson on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed. A bit shy of the world record but not to be sniffed at.

December 3, 2013 at 17:16 #460687There used to be a theory that top-notch mares rarely gave birth to progeny who came anywhere near the ability of the mother. Supposed reason was that some excess of male hormone had given them that extra oomph on the track, but it would prove a drawback when breeding.
I never found out if there was any substance to the theory. Doubtless at least one TRFr will have some stats!

Urban Sea.
December 4, 2013 at 17:42 #460772Is Urban Sea the exception that proves the rule?
December 4, 2013 at 19:10 #460785If Australia turns to be as good as they say then add Ouija Board to the list of top class mares.
December 5, 2013 at 01:04 #460802Was Hasili any good on the racecourse? Produced 4 individual Group 1 winners including the excellent sire Dansili. Some broodmare
