Bull fights are considered entertainment in Mexico and Spain. The bulls who die in the ring are sold as meat to the fans on the way out of the arenas in Mexico. I cannot speak for Spain. The bulls are bred to fight and die in the ring.Primative cultures believe that the strength of the conquored will pass on to their victors if they are eaten by them.Perhaps we are not so far removed from our ancestors as we think. With the arrival of the Olympic games will athletes revert to primative type and eat swift horses and/or other drugs? And will the armchair ethicians howl them down?

What cannot be ignored is each year around a hundred horses die in Nh racing, and regardless of how small a percentage that is to the overall runners , its still a very unpalatable amount
You cannot just bury your head in the sand and think that’s acceptable ….or maybe you can

In Spain the carcasses of the bulls are taken straight to the Matadero (slaughterhouse) where they are then hung correctly for the appropriate period before being quartered according to EU regulations. The meat is highly prized.
As for the bald description of bull fights as "entertainment", c.f. my earlier posts on his thread concerning the inadequacy of the word to cover yet another human pursuit which (as your post hints) goes far beyond that numbskull aim. The same points apply.

I’m not sweeping it under the carpet as you put it RL
July 28, 2011 at 11:33 #366184I was trying to put down an article I coincidentally saw in the Weekender which I thought was relevant to the thread.
However let’s take your view and cancel all jump races. Then because more deaths occur in pattern races than in selling let’s cancel them as well.
July 28, 2011 at 13:11 #366198Do more people die in auto racing than in motorcycle racing? How about motorcycle versus bicycle races? How about mountain climbing versus trecking? And so on until we better not go to bed since most people die in bed! That is of course if we are treated like animals who never leave their comfort zone like we do.
