Besides recently believing a horse jinxed into the rail and rain comes down in steroids, this week as well as taking a good look at a "muriel" (mural) Tommo wondered whether Cheryl Cole would be backing Dangerous Midge "Ho Ho" and he also bet all the soldiers backed Wootton Bassett "Ho Ho Ho". After the race of course.

I’m not a great fan of Tommo but to single him out for poor pronunciation or bad puns seems a tad harsh. All presenters and commentators are occasionally guilty of committing one or both of these crimes; do we expect complete perfection from them?
To give a couple of examples which had me spluttering my tea with indignation on Tuesday, Richard Hoiles described a jockey as sitting "statuesque-like" and Nick Luck claimed that Darara (dam of Rewilding) won the Abbaye. Sack them both!
August 20, 2010 at 08:59 #313738I was half hoping The Big Fella would go for a repeat of last year’s interview with Jamie ‘Got Beat Derek’ Spencer. Alas no.
I did like his trip to York jail though. We found out that it wasn’t Dick Turpin that did the 200 mile dash from Kent to York but some guy named Nevison. Apparently he was doing a runner after some minor indescretions with an ‘older woman’.
Nothing new under the sun!
August 20, 2010 at 22:07 #313934For goodness sake give him a break. Soldiers might have indeed backed Wootton Basset. I don’t see the problem with the chap. He is what he is, a bit daft (no harm in that, so is McCririck), but expert at talking to a crowd and as a compere. Chatted to him one day at Towcester, could have been more accomodating or nicer despite a busy day.
Isn’t it about time we stopped having a go at the likes of Tommo. After all which of us could do a better job, I know I can’t.
