I hope I can get R5 in the car as I’m doing the school run on Thursday and Friday. Will have to warn my grandson that I’ll be picking him up at the last minute and he needs to leggit to the car! And be prepared for me screaming at the radio on the way home….
March 5, 2014 at 00:39 #470037Moe, have you thought of channel 13 after returning from the school run?
March 5, 2014 at 00:49 #470038I used to book the week off work but now I’m retired I don’t have to [hurrah!]. Go to Cheltenham on the Tuesday to get in ‘the zone’ then spend the rest of the week watching it on the telly. Up at the crack of dawn each day making selections; off to the bookies and then sit in front of the telly. Only trouble is this year I’m doing the school run on Thursday and Friday so will have to watch some of it on 4+1 [just not the same]. One thing that’s bothering me is that I always do well on the 3 mile handicap on the first day, but I’ve got a bad feeling that this year my run of bad luck so far this season is going to continue. I need to get the winner of that race

Forget my last post. I see that you’re not a fan of it not being live, but surely much more preferable than listening on the radio in the car?
I’ll never understand women
March 5, 2014 at 01:35 #470044Wouldn’t work Mr P. It’s like on Arc day when I’d arranged to go somewhere that afternoon and couldn’t cancel it; said to Mike ‘when I get in don’t you dare tell me who won as I’ll be able to watch it on 4+1’ but the minute I got in the house I HAD to know who’d won. I quite like listening to sport on the radio. Always remember listening to Ouija Board winning one of her races when we were driving round oop north and Punchestown when we were driving round Connemara; sat looking out to sea the day Brave Inca won. And Kicking King winning the King George when we were driving to Wales [the only time since pre Dessie days that I wasn’t glued to the telly on that day; I even used to shut myself in one of the bedrooms with a telly when I used to stay with my inlaws].
March 5, 2014 at 05:21 #470046You sound like me. I often have to catch up on 4+1, but I still like to know who won because I can’t stand the suspense. And then when I watch the race, it isn’t the same thrill, and I usually wish I hadn’t found out. If I don’t find out who won, I Daren’t watch and end up cowering in the kitchen with my hands over my ears for the final stages
Fun though! Can’t wait!March 5, 2014 at 10:48 #470056Have you got the week off? You aways used to have to work that week, if my memory [what’s left of it]is right.
March 5, 2014 at 19:13 #470129Nope, not working. I always get the week off, but as I said before, my daughter’s getting married on Gold Cup day so there’ll be an awful lot of catching up to do

It’s going to be some week one way or another!
March 6, 2014 at 17:48 #470233Monday – Working furiously on the last day. Home, pack the bag, tell the Mrs and duaghters how much i’ll miss them then try to get some sleep.
Tues – up at 5.30am, two pick ups on the M1, aim to be in Chelters by 9.30am at our digs. Catch up with Landlady, have a brew and some cake, then walk 20mins into town to the Bayshill for 3 pints. Taxi up to course, more beer dependent on winners. Head back into Town for a steak at Weatherspoons and continue the revellry until we drop, usually 12.00-1.00am.
Weds – get up a bit foggy headed, full english from the landlady, tea on tap, watch Morning line on 4+1 then repeat tuesday.
Thurs – same as tues/weds but only a pint at lunchtime and none on course for me. Feel sad after the Kim Muir and give the charity race a miss, head back to digs have a cuppa and drive back to Yorkshire.
Fri – take kids to school, back home, glued to the TV rest of the day. Pick the kids up from childminder between Foxhunters and Pipe hurdle. Back home to catch the last two races on webstream. Even after backing the winner of the Grand Annual, a feeling of sadness again. Midlands National anyone?
23 years not out, three days minimum bar 2008, only the bloody foot and mouth has spoiled the party, that was one very odd year.
March 6, 2014 at 18:24 #470236At work as usual. Record it as a rule so I can fast forward all the interviews and visits to the tented village.
March 8, 2014 at 16:24 #470459Racing being shown at the pub next to the school so can watch the 3.20 and [hopefully] get to the school for 3.30 [need the races to start on time!!].
March 8, 2014 at 17:31 #470461Which day is that Moe?, the 3.20 is always about 10 mins behind on the Gold Cup.

March 8, 2014 at 18:16 #470463Blow me if it isn’t a school inset day next Friday and my daughter had forgotten about it, so we haven’t got the grandson at all. Honestly; my daughter needs to get her priorities right sometime. We might have actually forgone a trip to the Gold Cup because of school duties. Wonder if the teachers will all be watching the racing on the telly that day

Nah,
Not too bad at the moment Nathan, it’ll be the greasy hair that’ll decide whether I make Friday evening.

March 14, 2014 at 10:31 #471703So glad you’ve got good weather for it! Was a wreck watching the weather forecasts on the run up to my daughters wedding! You could do what I did yesterday on the school run and take a shower radio with you
Have a great day!March 14, 2014 at 16:53 #471815Do they do shower TVs Moehat?
