Placed my second ever bet today! £20 on Splash of Ginge at 20/1. In fact it was such a rare occurance for me that the Barclays Fraud Office rang to say there had been an unusual transaction on my debit card.
Seriously! You couldn’t make it up.March 2, 2014 at 09:50 #469683Monday Night
Meet my mate in the pub and analyse the weeks racing at length. Go home and place potentially lucrative yankee.
Tuesday – Friday
Drive to the course, getting a decent brekkie on the way. The usual pattern seems to be one good day; one skinner; one break even; so the week tends to hinge on whether the other day is up or down. I need to find a couple of handicap winners to finish up. It always seems to rain on Gold Cup Day!
We usually call in at a hostelry on the way home for a couple of pints and some grub.
Knackered at the end of the week doing a 3h return trip every day but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We used to wind down with a trip to the Midlands National but the four day festival killed that off.
Betlarge, your post made me laugh!
March 2, 2014 at 11:47 #469695One of my workmates has gone to the Festival every year, without fail (bar 2001 of course) since 1977. A quite remarkable feat… and i’m still waiting for my invite
March 2, 2014 at 19:20 #469731Last jear I phoned hours and hours with a hotline of my internetprovider because suddenly, Tuesday 1.50pm, my WLAN was dead. A week later, it worked again. Another Festival like that and I need professional treatment.
In Germany it is IMPOSSIBLE to get any information about horseracing without internet.March 3, 2014 at 01:16 #469767Placed my second ever bet today! £20 on Splash of Ginge at 20/1. Value Is EverythingMarch 3, 2014 at 16:10 #469853Oh har har

Nah, been following the Gingearmy on twitter for a good while now. It’s been exciting to watch Ginge’s progress. Go Gingearmy!
March 3, 2014 at 16:59 #469858Thought I was in there.

Not very exiting for me Burroughhill, I backed the next 5 home in the Betfair Hurdle, including the 2nd as the main bet.

Value Is EverythingMarch 3, 2014 at 17:05 #469861I shut the curtains, open the Jim Beam (Black), and open the Kleenex. I then sit furiously masturbating for most of the week.
And just when I thought it couldn’t get more exciting, I can now ponder the winner of the newly founded Prestbury Cup. Irish? UK? My Union Flag is getting hung out of the window and no mistake. If ‘we’ don’t do it, how will I show my face on St. Patricks Day?

Sounds like most of my weeks…….

March 3, 2014 at 18:05 #469866There was a mention of replays earlier – just to remind everyone that full replays from all tracks owned by Jockey Club Racecourses are available free (and with no info about what won) at:
http://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/video
You can also get to see any race from Cheltenham earlier this season or previous years back to 2010.

Ah see if you’d been following Ginge on twitter, you wouldn’t have made that mistake.

March 3, 2014 at 23:51 #469891ap; will I be able to watch next Tuesdays Cheltenham races on that link?
March 4, 2014 at 09:44 #469899Yes – they say on the website that the replays are available about 20 minutes after each race. I haven’t tested that, but to date, I’ve had no problems watching any race later the same day.
March 4, 2014 at 09:53 #469900Thanks for the reminder AP. I’ve pinned it to favourites now.

March 4, 2014 at 12:48 #469929Thanks so much; I can’t understand why I can’t watch the racing on Ch4 catchup either?
March 4, 2014 at 21:55 #470006Moe,
The Saturday C4 racing programs do eventually appear on C4 Catch Up, but only several days after the live transmission. For example, the show from Feb 22nd at Kempton is up there now.
Not sure if that’s down to issues with who has the rights to show race replays, or whether it’s just that C4 don’t have anyone on duty to upload the stuff at the weekend. They are reputed to rely on one man and a dog to run the Catch Up service and the dog allegedly does most of the work as he’s the smarter of the pair.
Most of what we watch is pre-recorded weeks in advance, so it’s much easier to get those programs onto Catch Up than it is for a live sports broadcast.
