Well now my nephew is into racing and also he loves boardgames. So I got the really nasty horse racing game, which I had as a kid. Loved it back then, going have some fun with the I think :good:

So what games have you played boardgames that you would recommend.

I remember having and they’re off to which was good also
We also had escalade but that was nightmare turning the handle thing to make horses move across sheet on flat unit :yahoo:

We had the grand national boardgame to but that was to much messing around as to !any horses and not many people wanted play it

ITV7 with the playing cards? My recollection is it was pretty poor. May still have it

Had both Escalado and Totopoly – can also vaguely recall there being a game called ‘ Kentucky Derby’ which would be advertised on the toy commercials on the run up to Xmas in the 1970’s.

The Injured Jockeys Fund now sells a version of monopoly based on racecourses.

If you’re looking to find board games then the only site you’ll want is Board Game Geek https://www.boardgamegeek.com/

I threw “Horse” into the search bar there and it threw up a load of results, even if most of them are older. If yer nephew is into board games and you can find a few good ones on that site (whatever the theme) you’ll quickly reach favoured relative status.

Edit: This one seems to be the highest ranked horse game from board game fans, and it looks like it has different serious-ness levels for whether you want to play with adults, families or just have a kind of party game. https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/58110/horse-fever

Many, many hours playing Totopoly in my youth. I still have it and also have sets of Totopoly horses I painted with the popular owner’s colours of the day (early 80s). Will post a pic!

In the town I originally come from a toy shop still has a game called Derby Day on the shelf, where it has sat for 50 years. It has Sid James in a top hat on the box.

Escalado and The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game were childhood favourites.

I can never convince enough people to play the Grand National board game with me, however whenever I have played it; it’s always been a blast, with or without house rules (the forums on BGG are a great source of alternative playing styles). I’ve done Becher Chases and Foxhunters too!
