Frankie Dettori is going to mount french Planteur in the Cup.
I really don’t believe in his chances for the victory even with Dettori.Agreed especially since Behkabad hasn’t done much for Planteur’s form. I’m not sure why Snow Fairy didn’t go for the Vase because it’d almost be hers for the taking, but she’s obviously a big chance.
Americain looked very classy but this is a big step back in trip. I’d be betting against him on his Geelong Cup win; he won well but not spectacularly (even after accounting for him being held up) in an average race. I just feel that there are horses like Jaguar Mail (who ran a perfect prep race in the Japan Cup) who are at least his equal over 12f.
Agree on Irian, he probably won’t be bigger than 5s on the big day locally, though this same public ridiculously sent out Collection odds on for last year’s HK and QEII Cups. His win was very nice, the other horses weren’t primed for that race but he may very well have progressed past them. He must be a step above Collection to challenge Vision D’Etat though. Stacelita’s also very good but I personally can’t see her beating Vision D’Etat without cut in the ground.
December 2, 2010 at 08:29 #330803three overseas withdrawals:
– Dalghar (Royer-Dupre) (Sprint) has been sold by the Aga and will not travel. "His new owners are keen for the horse to be campaigned in the UK in the first half of 2011." Replaced by local Cerise Cherry.
– Summit Surge (Cumani) (Cup) "has not been pleasing connections in his work and they feel it would not be in best interests to travel to Hong Kong for such a demanding race".
– Scalo (Wohler) (Vase) "The weather in Northern Europe is extremely severe at the moment, and connections reported that the horse is running a temperature which makes it impossible for him to travel." Replaced by local Mighty High.

also, the SCMP reports that Glass Harmonium (Stoute) (Cup) will be ridden by Craig Williams:
"The 2009 Hampton Court Stakes winner will race for trainer Sir Michael Stoute, but has had a recent change of ownership which will see him trained in Melbourne next year by Mike Moroney, for whom Williams recently won the Group One Victorian Oaks".
December 2, 2010 at 11:36 #330818I’ve done Sacred Kingdom, Vision D’etat, Paco Boy and Americain in doubles and trebles.
December 2, 2010 at 11:46 #330820Green Birdie at 14/1 in the sprint looks a decent enough bet – he’s beaten Rocket Man in RM’s back yard already this year (albeit on a softer surface) and wasn’t beaten far by Sacred Kingdom in this race last year.
Took 50/1 about One World in the Sprint last year but alas I won’t be getting that price this year whilst I think there could be some value in the rank outsider in the race Let Met Fight who wasn’t beaten far LTO by the protagonists in this race – he’s currently 66/1 with the UK books.

You are absolutely spot on. Green Birdie hasn’t run in HK this yr because he ran in Japan. There, he ran an unlucky head 2nd under hands and heels riding in the G2 prep race. The horse he lost to was the eventual head runner-up in the G1 Sprinters Stakes; Green Birdie got no run in the big one. I don’t think he can win here in such a hot race but you never know.
Let Me Fight is under the radar which has me giggling in anticipation. His trainer John Moore (trains Irian, Viva Pataca, Able One, Collection) openly claims that this horse will be one of HK’s best sprinter-milers.
First-up he was inches away from race-fit Little Bridge over 5f! Little Bridge just ran a close 3rd to Rocket Man/One World though he had no excuses). In that race Let Me Fight went back to last from the bad draw (not his normal racing pattern), was inconvenienced mid-race before finishing fastest of all. I think Sacred Kingdom’s the king but Let Me Fight might finish in the top 3.John Moore also now has Mighty High supplemented into the Vase and thinks he’s something special. The horse is an out-and-out stayer who will get his ideal distance, but I’m concerned he hasn’t settled in his races this year. But I’ll have something on him, as well as my mate King Dancer.
December 3, 2010 at 13:35 #330996Sorry if I missed it but what day does the draw for stalls position take place? Thanks in advance.

CXHKIR Trackwork notes, Monday 6 December 2010 Contenders from Europe and Singapore – Alastair Donald and James Stafford
06/12/2010Singapore’s ace sprinter Rocket Man caught the eye as he went for a spin on the all weather track watched by his trainer Patrick Shaw. “He’s very well, and I hope he stays that way until Sunday, He said. “He’s getting used to the idea of going right handed now that he’s been here a while.”
The Aidan O’Brien-trained CXHK Vase contender Joshua Tree was also out on the all weather track for a routine canter. O’Brien’s representative T J Comerford said at trackside, “ He’s taken the race in Japan well (Japan Cup), and although he only finished in mid-division, I thought he ran well, as there was no pace in the race, and it wasn’t run to suit him. He only lost a couple of kilos in the race, and I hope he’ll go well here.”
O’Brien’s CXHK Mile hope Beethoven was also seen out on the all weather track for a steady canter.
Britain’s CXHK Cup hopes Glass Harmonium (Sir Michael Stoute), Sri Putra (Michael Jarvis) and Snow Fairy (Ed Dunlop) were all out on the all weather track for a canter.
Jo Banks, in charge of Sri Putra, in Michael Jarvis’ absence, said: “Sri Putra is very well, and his jockey Philip Robinson comes out mid-week and will work him on the grass on Thursday. Philip knows Sha Tin so well and is convinced the horse will love the track. It’s been his goal for a while – he didn’t stay the mile and a half in Turkey, but this is his trip.”
Snow Fairy continues to please Ed Dunlop’s travelling head lad Robin Trevor-Jones, who has been with the filly throughout her Far East campaign. “Everything’s good,” he said, as he walked the filly back to the stable area.
Despite looking a bit hot on a very warm morning at Sha Tin, Paco Boy, a warm favourite for the Mile, travelled well in his slower paces around the all weather circuit.
Travelled head lad, Tony Gorman, is delighted with the way five-year-old travelled out. “He’s entitled to be a bit warm on a morning like this. A far cry from he was experiencing at home but he is moving nicely. He has been really well since he returned from America (Breeders’ Cup Mile).”The Andrew Balding-trained Mile hope Dream Eater was confined to the trotting ring but was reported to be looking very well in himself as was the Barry Hills-trained Redwood, who lines up for the Vase on Sunday.
Britain’s sole representative for the Sprint, Kingsgate Native was out on the all-weather circuit and looked none the worse for him long trip with a gentle canter under his work rider Tony Procter.
Godolphin’s Mastery looked in fine fettle and his travelling head lad Tommy Burns said; “He has come out fine.”

from RP, under a byline not mentioning the above chaps:
Hong Kong: Britain’s Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup hopes Glass Harmonium (Sir Michael Stoute), Sri Putra (Michael Jarvis) and Snow Fairy (Ed Dunlop) were all out for a canter on Monday, and the Jarvis horse is fancied to bely odds of around 25-1.
Jo Banks, in charge of Sri Putra, in Jarvis’s absence, said: "Sri Putra is very well, and his jockey Philip Robinson comes out midweek and will work him on the grass on Thursday.
"Philip knows Sha Tin so well and is convinced the horse will love the track. It’s been his goal for a while – he didn’t stay the mile and a half in Turkey, but this is his trip."
Snow Fairy continues to please Ed Dunlop’s travelling head lad Robin Trevor-Jones, who has been with the filly throughout her Far East campaign.
"Everything’s good," he said, as he walked the filly back to the stable area. Snow Fairy is 7-2 second favourite behind French-trained Vision D’Etat (5-2) for Sunday’s big race.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Vase contender Joshua Tree, a general 10-1 chance, was also out on the all-weather track for a routine canter.
O’Brien’s representative, TJ Comerford, said at trackside: "He’s taken the race in Japan well [Japan Cup], and although he only finished in mid-division, I thought he ran well, as there was no pace in the race, and it wasn’t run to suit him.
"He only lost a couple of kilos in the race, and I hope he’ll go well here."
Despite looking a bit hot on a very warm morning at Sha Tin, Paco Boy, a short-priced favourite for the Mile, travelled well in his slower paces around the all-weather circuit.
Travelled head lad Tony Gorman is delighted with the way the five-year-old travelled out, telling the Hong Kong Jockey Club: "He’s entitled to be a bit warm on a morning like this. A far cry from he was experiencing at home but he is moving nicely. He has been really well since he returned from America (Breeders’ Cup Mile)."
The Andrew Balding-trained Mile hope Dream Eater was confined to the trotting ring, but was reported to be looking well in himself.
Balding told the Racing Post: "He travelled out there well and settled in really well, and will stretch his legs in the morning."
Britain’s sole representative for the Sprint, Kingsgate Native, was out on the all-weather circuit and looked none the worse for his long trip with a gentle canter under his work rider Tony Procter.
December 8, 2010 at 14:28 #331617Ryan Moore takes the International Jockeys championship at Happy Valley tonight, winning two of the four races including on a 23/1 shot.

December 9, 2010 at 02:21 #331681What a performance by Ryan Moore. He had 2 no-hopers, a good winning chance on a famously ingenuine and quirky horse, and an outside chance on another inconsistent sort (but who has plenty of ability). I’m glad I got on the latter at 24-1, and Ryan was 20-1 for the Jockey challenge too.
I don’t think there’s anybody who gets more out of hold-up horsesDecember 9, 2010 at 07:06 #331687barrier draw first item for 09/12/2010 here:

Zorro been busy on trackwork again, including news of Beadman switching mounts in the Sprint to Let Me Fight from the slightly injured One World who dead-heated with Rocket Man a couple of weeks back (see yesterday vet report above).
no harm in Let Me Fight later being drawn 11 and One World 14.
Paco Boy’s owner not thrilled with 13 draw in Mile.
December 9, 2010 at 12:33 #331726Let Me Fight can sit handier (probably midfield) than last race where he went back from the draw, he’ll need some luck. But the jockey switch has spilled the beans on the horse which is a shame, I was all over him and won’t be getting huge odds now
Trainer Caspar Fownes is talking up Green Birdie. I think he only beat Rocket Man because of the soft track but this horse was first-up overweight for last year’s Sprint. But he ran a few times last year when fit and couldn’t challenge Sacred Kingdom, very close to One World though. Might be the better pick now due to the draws.
One World has drawn the outside 14 for two straight HK Sprints. Lucky Nine and Joy and Fun can’t win from 12 and 13, all the other chances have done OK.Awful draw 13 for Paco Boy, especially with his main danger and on-pace runner Able One being drawn 2. If Paco Boy drew well I’d have him beating Able One regardless of pace but now I’m not sure. He’s easily the better horse so a real shame. Sahpresa drew 9 which is nothing terrible.
Cirrus Des Aigles drew the extreme outside in the Japan Cup and would have won last year’s Vase if he drew a good gate, he’s in 13 which is a real heartbreaker. Stacelita out in 12, Reggane 11 but will drop out anyways, Snow Fairy 8, Planteur 10 but is versatile.
Americain 9 which is not a big deal, Crystal Capella 10, Viva Pataca can’t win from 13 unless he somehow slots into a handy position. The likely leader and blowout chance Mighty High in 1.
December 9, 2010 at 13:15 #331736Frankie not Howard on Cerise Cherry:
December 9, 2010 at 14:45 #331758The draw is quite awful for our European contenders in the Cup. Everyone is on the outside. I hope they can succesfully deal with it.
First I wasn’t sure about Planteur. He seems to be really fit according to Lellouche’s declaration, and he is better on 1m2f than 1m4f. Dettori is going to mount him. So, why not?For once Paco Boy has got rid of Goldikova, and now he has to cope with 13. I was convinced Paco was going to win this HK Mile, but now…

i agree that strictly on ratings it may be between Olivier (gate 7) and Frankie (gate 10). the only others rated to have run 120 or higher anytime recently seem to be Stacelita and Collection.
both trainer comments today positive:
Lellouche:
“He’s very well, as always on the turf, and I fancy him for the Cup over 2,000 metres. This is the perfect trip for him. He’s proved us that in the Arc and I was already wary of his lack of stamina to cover 12 furlongs. He’s by Danehill Dancer out of a Giant’s Causeway mare whose dam is by Lear Fan – a pure miler’s pedigree really. He’s only 3 but this is the end of the season and Vallee Enchantee, who probably wasn’t as good as him, won the Vase at 3 here back in 2003. "..drawn 10, was rather philosophical about this: “We will feel at home with all our compatriots around us. It is just as good as being at Longchamp! Joke apart, Planteur does not need to take a flying start. He’s got a good turn of foot and should get away with it.”
Libaud:
“He just had a canter on the turf track this morning. He worked on the all weather at Chantilly before he came out here, and his preparation has gone well. This will be his last race before he takes up stud duties, and I hope he can go out on a high. The turf is firm but it’s safe, and he bounced off it. That was why he may have gone slightly quicker than I expected, he’s in much the same form as he was last year.”Eric Libaud, trainer of the 2009 CXHK Cup winner Vision d’Etat, who drew seven from which he won this race 12 months ago. “It seems that we are pretty lucky on this ground,” said a smiling Libaud
December 9, 2010 at 23:44 #331842More information on One World. From racing.scmp.com
One World’s problems are more significant, with the infection in a capped off-fore elbow spreading down his leg and requiring antibiotics.
"One World developed the problem two or three days ago. The infection spread and we had to open it up on Wednesday and drain it," Moore said. "The antibiotics did put him in doubt at that time, but with all the work that has been done on it and looking at him today, I think he will be OK to run. We had intended to work him on the grass this morning and will do that Friday [today] instead, but Darren is switching to Let Me Fight. We have to have reservations now whether One World will produce his form after what has happened, and especially with having been treated with antibiotics."John Moore also said that Able One won’t be affected by the abrasion to his left eye.
