Well lads,
I have to do a presentation on this topic for college and was wondering if any one has any examples. The only two I can think of are Dónal Óg Cusack and Gareth Jenkins.
There are four of us making the presentation so in particular does anyone know of any gay/lesbian horse racing jockeys or trainers?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
February 27, 2011 at 00:05 #342402I don’t know any racing people but from football there’s also Justin Fashanu.
February 27, 2011 at 00:30 #342404Thanks Anthony!
February 27, 2011 at 01:20 #342406Martina Navratilova is the other obvious one, as well as the late John Curry, not many though are there (that are out anyway)
February 27, 2011 at 04:40 #342416Not sure of any racing people, but there are a lot of openly gay equestrians. The most famous:
George Morris, chef d’equipe for the United States Equestrian Federation show jumping team and one of the most important figures in the history of the sport
Robert Dover, the most honored dressage rider in the United States, four-time Olympic medalistFebruary 27, 2011 at 14:55 #342467Thanks a million for responses, I shall look into these!
February 27, 2011 at 15:05 #342468Justin Fashanu played for Airdrie for a season (same time as Owen Coyle and Sandy Stewart who are the current Bolton management team) and he was very gay.
Built like a heavyweight boxer, it was fun listening to opposition fans trying to extract the urine, one memorable occassion at Ibrox v. Rangers, the wolfwhistles were very noticeable till he took out both Richard Gough and Andy Goram in one fell swoop.
there are plenty of internet stories of Fash, some of his ‘home’ life were rather lurid.
Isn’t Clare Balding the most famous horseracing gay?
February 27, 2011 at 15:40 #342475Was Carl Lewis? Daley Thompson thought so!
My mate says Collin Jackson is too.
February 27, 2011 at 15:58 #342478Can we not have this thread descend into ‘let’s take guesses at who is gay’ please. I’ll be monitoring and if it goes awry it’ll be removed.
till he took out both Richard Gough and Andy Goram in one fell swoop
.
That puts him up several notches in my estimation.

Alan Turing the man who broke the enigma code was the most celebrated homo in history. In his days it was a great offense.
There was a film made with transvestite spies going to Germany to steal the enigma.
About Djibril Cisse what is the general consensus ?February 27, 2011 at 16:11 #342481Sorry Corm that is not my intention and if you feel it needs removing at some stage do it.
February 27, 2011 at 16:18 #342483Although not a sportsgayer as such, from racing Jim McGarth, (Timeform & C4) obliviously bowls from the pavilion end.
For some reason I’ve always thought it was common knowledge Venetia Williams was a todger-dodger – but I’m really not sure about it.
Nicky Henderson has always looked a bit light on his feet to me.

Presumably your presentation is intending to determine whether the percentage of homosexuals in professional sport is on a par with that in the public-at-large. If so it may prove to be a worthwhile piece of research i.e under or over representation leading to the question why?
As per the Handedness skew in sport
If not, I see no point in it at all
Your "Well lads" intro hardly inspires much confidence
February 27, 2011 at 17:52 #342499No, It is me who’s had his hand slapped and rightly so. Sorry.

February 28, 2011 at 00:30 #342570This thread is a little fruity if you ask me!!
The strict rules are a little OTT IMO!!
Removing threads for a little speculation??
PC gone mad on the racing forum??

Luke Harvey & Jason Weaver, ATR’s Brokeback Mountain lead roles!!
February 28, 2011 at 23:56 #342719Speculation isn’t especially helpful for the OP’s particular project, I’d suggest.
Published, reported fact, however, is. I trust you may have seen England wicketkeeper Steven Davies on the front of one of the broadsheets today, having become the first active English cricketer to come out?
