The lamentable performances from these two at Aintree on Saturday were probably in line with expectations. The stewards seem to have thought so anyway . They did inquire into the disappointing performance of Unanimite who finished over 40 lengths in front of the O’Neill pair
November 7, 2016 at 08:53 #1271202The stewards can see into the future, they would know that questioning the O’Niell pair Holywell and Shutthefrontdoor, second and third favourite for the 4m2f Grand National marathon last year, would cause them to ask uncomfortable questions regarding the structure of racing and eligibility of entrants for particular races. But by not asking any questions the stewards have condoned the actions, as have many others down the years.
In my view they got it about spot on, Unanimates run was a total piss take, putting a claimer on to indicate before hand it cant run to the mark. What was the representatives response ?

The record of vaccinations in the passport of HOLYWELL (IRE), trained by Jonjo O’Neill, had been altered. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (E)19.5 and fined him £80.
The Stewards noted that ENNISTOWN trained by David Pipe, would wear earplugs.
The Stewards considered the running of UNANIMITE (FR) ridden by David Noonan and trained by David Pipe, which finished unplaced. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of UNANIMITE (FR) during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
