I’ll give Raven’s Pass another chance, the g/f going should suit him.
June 16, 2008 at 21:43 #168614I really am struggling to believe that you don’t think a dual Guineas winner doesn’t really stay a mile Reet- fantastic!

No more than Finsceal Beo or Cockney Rebel didn’t at Ascot, (Despite the horsesh*t about the injury costing him the race when he was already beaten).
Watch and learn, my son!
June 17, 2008 at 05:01 #168651two poor examples one was real sick and the other could win tomorrow

Two fine examples, both as recent as it gets, and neither lasting home!
Finsceal Beo might just see it out today, with another year on her back and being trained to try and stay 10f ever since, but she didn’t stay it last year.
Neither, imo, did Cockney Rebel, a view I expressed immediately after the race, long before his ‘injury’ became apparent.
Not something I’ve researched, but I’d be pretty sure that Ascot’s 1m, on either course, would be littered with the ashes of other Guinea’s winners that have also failed to stay this sterner test.June 17, 2008 at 12:15 #168726Rio De La Plata is a non-runner today.
June 17, 2008 at 12:27 #168728Can’t have much of that Reet, especially the Cockney Rebel jibe – the horse veered the width of the track after looking like winning as he liked. Didn’t look like a bull excuse to me.
June 17, 2008 at 12:48 #168734I agree with Peruvian – I think you’re way off the mark with Cockney Rebel he came to win and then decided to do a red arrows impression across the width of the track. He would have won that race easily imo. I felt for the Cunninghams as I genuinely thought Cockney Rebel was an absolute machine.
June 17, 2008 at 12:56 #168737I did too. Will never be proved, but i personally have no doubt Excellent Art or Ramonti wouldn’t have beaten Cockney Rebel last season, injuries excepted.
June 17, 2008 at 13:04 #168740Wow, just read an article on Setanta about Henry..

Aidan O’Brien has talked up Henrythenavigator prior to Tuesday’s St James’ Palace Stakes to the extent that the 4-6 available about him winning might seem like free money.
The son of Kingmambo bids for three consecutive Group Ones after winning both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas.
The Ballydoyle colt is hot favourite to achieve that at Royal Ascot, and O’Brien has compared him favourably to his best recent milers.
"Henrythenavigator is probably the best miler I have trained in that he has such electric pace," the trainer told the Racing Post.
"Giant’s Causeway was a tough grinder and Rock Of Gibraltar was high-class – but Henry is a bit special."

Just another example of his trainer’s fertile imagination; the same one that a few weeks back had HTN as a Derby contender.

Almost as fast as One Cool Cat then
June 17, 2008 at 13:59 #168757"He shows so much speed, so he does".
It might be true but he says it about every stallion prospect, nobody listens to him anymore.

Value Is EverythingJune 17, 2008 at 14:48 #168775Its now got to the point that if you don’t hear Aiden O’Brien calling a Coolmore Group 1 horse the best / fastest he’s ever trained, it can be construed as a negative.
June 17, 2008 at 15:05 #168782This now looks a moderate race with the late defection of the best miler in the country.
