Intriguing to see what runs in this on Sunday.
With Exotic Dancer, Neptune Collonges and Notre Pere holding engagements in the Gold Cup, all with seemingly improved chances after Saturday, I wonder if any will also run here in what’s bound to be a slog, and only 3 weeks before the big one?

I’ve always thought a lot of Thyne Again Gerald and he is certainly very interesting stepping up in trip. His pedigree screams stamina and he should be a better horse over a longer trip. He jumps well and handles most ground but I’ve been coming around to the opinion that he’s always going to be a grade 2 rather than a grade 1 performer.

He always seems to travel very well in his races but he does all his best work on the bridle. He’s no Ouninpohja (spelling??) but it’s always a concern as to how much he’ll find when asked the question. I think he’ll go for the Ryanair at Cheltenham (though if he was to win on Sunday I’m sure they’d be tempted by the GC). Despite Noland being ruled out, the Ryanair still looks very competitive this year and I’m now of the opinion that his price of around 25/1 is probably about right.

    Thanks IC

You’re the second person to suggest he’ll go for the Ryanair. but I can’t see any value for me, or point for the horse.

I’m going for the race on Sunday, and the GC, once I get my Schweppes money back from BF

Its bloody hard finding money to bet with, when you’ve already got more than a month’s wages tied up ante-post.

Thyne Again has been a big disappointment Gerald- I have doubts about his resolution now and don’t have him up to Championship class. On the Hennessy, if they offer 2/1 Exotic this week I’ll be getting stuck in- I can’t see how he’s a bigger price than Neptune. I can’t quite see Notre Pere having the toe to beat him over 3m, though for the sake of my 50-1 Gold Cup bet, I don’t mind if he does!

I’m just praying that Air Force One is still as big a price as he was last week

10/1 Air Force One, very happy with that

Johnjo says Exotic Dancer won’t run, as it’s too close to the Gold Cup; would suspect the same applies with Neptune Collonges too, with Harry Findlay touting him as a Gold Cup bet.

I’ve taken the 4/1 Notre Pere. There must be a small doubt about Neptune running, but even if he does NP will give him a race on deep ground. I’d much prefer him to The Listener, who is beginning to look regressive.

    Carv

I’m amazed anyone’s priced it up, given the uncertainty about the better horses in the field.
Would agree that 4/1 NP has to be a good price against 2 doubtful runners and The Listener, who wouldn’t last home in the likely ground. Even in the event of Neptune Collonges actually running, any liability could easily be covered by a small csf.

Think Barry Simpson et al have screwed up really badly on the campaigning of Exotic Dancer ( and Star de Mohaison for that matter) thought the course suited him to a tee last time.

I wouldn’t agree as he jus one his first Grade 1 chase and they know what Exotic Dancer need. Probably needs that little bit extra time between races and with Denman a possible absontee the Gold Cup has taken priority. He seems in the best of form and they must fancy their chances a bit to miss this

There is no hint of Paul Nichols following suit but no two horses are the same.

Notre Pere is a vey likable animal but at 3 miles I doubt if he can upset Neptune Collonges despite the ground. I just couldn’t have the Listner and it’s alot to ask of Thyne Again running over 3 miles for the fist time if it is heavy ground, He has agood engine but doesn’t look like an out and out stayer to me

Price is very stingy about NC but if Ladbrokes are still going 4/5 him at the overnight stage and 2/5 Master Minded then 6/4 the PN double could be stealing money.

I agree Neptunes Collanges looks the most likely winner of the race, but I don’t think it will do his Gold Cup aspirations any favours. With The Listener in opposition and testing conditions it will be far from a walkover.

You should never underestimate The Listener in Ireland. He won this race last year and also collected a Lexus Chase in very testing conditions at this venue.

He ran the talented Noland to 1/2L in the John Durkan, with War Of Attrition in third and Mansony, twice a winner in good company since, back in fourth.

I see no signs of regression.

He’ll tackle NC for the lead and, like Beef Or Salmon in the past, the Gold Cup third will find him a tough nut to crack.

I don’t think Air Force One will be at his best under the forecast conditions and it’s expecting a lot of him to win after his injury in the King George.

I think Jonjo made a sensible decision sending Exotic Dancer straight for the Gold Cup and if NC has a hard race this Sunday, I know who I would rather have a few quid on.

Oh well, I had my finger on the trigger waiting for him to be confirmed. Shame. Hope you delayed too halfwaytoheaven!

4/1 Notre Pere looks nice to those who have it now, well done.

The Listener is looking way over priced at 5/1 this evening with AF1 and ED already out.
The Listener’s best performances are around this track and in this ground, Neptunes best efforts were bouncing round Punchestown in the spring sunshine.
Notre Pere has had a great season but may be just below this class. The others have a squeak but this is reflected in their longer odds.
The Listener looks the likely winner imho and the best value also.

I did mate, I was skint all week and was waiting for my pay packet to come through tonight before backing him.

Notre Pere is my bet for this. 4.8 on the machines is decent enough!

Ignore my comments about 4.8. Just after I took the last of the 4.8 Notre Peres gone all the way down to 3.6!
