Looking at Nicky’s runners in the last week or so. Most of the runners who have run poorly went into their races with a poor last time out run too. So were already out of form.
Luccia will be interesting on the Thursday, as she ran well at Cheltenham. Seeing if she’s remained free of it. Although will also need to settle better than she did in the Champion if she’s to stay.

April 10, 2024 at 17:42 #1689547Shishkin 3/1 and Sir Gino 5/6… why?
April 10, 2024 at 18:39 #1689552Would guess its to do with the opposition each one faces.
Sir Gino doesn’t look to have a tough task if he is free of whatever is running through the yard, as Kalif Du Berlais looks a chaser through and through and made rather heavy weather of scrambling home at Kempton by 3/4L against Givemefive, who was subsequently beaten 14L in a G2 at Fairyhouse next time and the others look fully exposed already.
Shishkin is taking on the runners up of the last two Gold Cups along with a known course specialist Ahoy Senor (2 wins, a second and thrid placing from 4 runs) and the unexposed pair of Corbetts Cross and Gentlemansgame (this season Charlie Hall winner).
Plus there is always the Shishkin factor as well
April 11, 2024 at 10:58 #1689669Really hard to back his horses with any confidence. Sir gino in normal circumstances would be a cert but he’s not given whats happened with the yard. Watch and see today and take it from there. The break could have done them good. Time will tell.
