Thanks to a comment by Racing UK’s Tom O’Ryan when he mentioned that the going on the round course was riding a lot faster than the inner Sprint course, man was he right.
I always find compiling speed figures at Haydock Park worse that trying to work out going allowances on Irish tracks when the going is on the heavy side.
After spending the best part of an hour, I arrived at two different going allowances, on the inner course for the sprints the going was on the slow side of good (-0.12s/f per furlong) and on the round course the going was good to firm (+0.26s/f per furlong).
Turf going allowance table:
Firm +0.55 to +0.63
Good/firm +0.20 to +0.53
Good -0.25 to +0.18
Good/soft -0.55 to -0.28
Soft -1.00 to -0.58
Heavy -1.58 to -1.03Yesterday’s speed figures:
02:00 Hamoody 5f -0.12 76
02:30 Liberty Island 5f -0.12 68
03:05 Red Turban 6f -0.12 45
03:35 Escape To Glory 6f -0.12 82
04:10 Trade Secret 6f -0.12 71
04:45 Prussian 1m2½f 0.26 89
05:15 Zacynthus 7f 0.26 77
05:45 Huff And Puff 1m6f 0.26 81Tom O’Ryan did mention that today they are using the outer course for the sprints, what the going will be is anybody’s guess <!– s:shock: –><!– s:shock: –>
September 9, 2012 at 06:32 #412492Haydock Park’s Saturday meeting didn’t disappoint, the 1m races were run over an extra 57yds and the 1m6f races over an extra mind boggling 107yds
How any person new to speed figures can adapt to what strokes the prize tit masquerading as the Clerk of the Course at Haydock beats me
One of the reasons I came up with the idea of different lbs. per length was so that I could make alterations, when a track suddenly added an extra 107yds to the advertised distance.
On the round course I came up with a going allowance of
-0.10s/f per furlong
and the sprints which on Saturday were run on the outer course, I ended up with
+0.14s/f per furlong
.
Turf going allowance table:
Firm +0.55 to +0.63
Good/firm +0.20 to +0.53
Good -0.25 to +0.18
Good/soft -0.55 to -0.28
Soft -1.00 to -0.58
Heavy -1.58 to -1.03Yesterday’s speed figures:
01:45 Havana Gold 1m -0.10

02:15 Cheviot 5f 0.14
106
02:50 Thistle Bird 1m -0.10

03:25 Society Rock 6f 0.14
95
04:00 Sir Graham Wade 1m6f -0.10

04:30 Baddilini 6f 0.14

05:05 Courtesy Call 1m6f -0.10

It was nice to note that Dave Edwards "Top Speed" had 3 going allowances for Friday meeting
I feel a lot better now that I have had my rant
September 9, 2012 at 12:52 #412524When it comes to speed ratings Haydock is a minefield BB. Crazy distance changes and often unrealistic going reports. I don’t envy you coming to an accurate figure. Mr. Tell"wrong" has a lot to answer for.
