so its betfair chase time again but is it right for a grade one chase to be run round a track that has its fences on trollys, when there are tracks such as newbury that hasent a grade one chase despite taking time, effort and money to build proper fences?
clive smith was quoted in the cheltenham racecard that hes a "big fan" of betfair so maybe thats why hes happy for kauto star to return to such a track as haydock.

Nothing wrong with Haydock – if they want to move the Betfair Chase they should move it to Aintree, we don’t need any more big races in the South.

Would be a good idea to move the Betfair Chase to Aintree and do something extra to utilise the Fixed Brush Hurdles they have at Haydock ie. the ones they said they’d eventually run all the hurdle races over.

Move the 2m G2 Novices Chase to Haydock from Cheltenham and stage a top 2m Handicap Hurdle over the new hurdles too to make up for it :)

The fences may be new now but they still take some jumping, after all even Kauto fell at the last so they need to be respected.

Regarding running the Lancashire Chase to give it its correct title at Aintree, that would only happen if Haydock was off and they could transfer the race to the Sunday.

Market Rasen is now portable so should the Summer Plate be taken away and ran at Worcester or Stratford?

Haydocks jumps track maybe different but the racing is still good and always worth watching.

There is a lot wrong with Haydock’s jumps track as it is now (in my opinion) and I wouldn’t run anything there of mine that wasn’t a nimble, speedy type so able to handle the course. Since they’ve decimated the jumps track by adding the sprint track it’s tighter than a dog track!

no market rasen shouldnt lose the summer plate, last time i looked it wasent a grade one race!
i think that having the betfair chase at aintree would be a great idea, imagine having it on the same day as the becher chase?
given that this could be the last year the becher is on the bbc it may well have to move to a saturday to obtain a tv slot, so a betfair/becher day might happen one day.
the betfair chase was set up in 2005 to give staying chasers ,who perhaps found kempton too tight,a early season grade one and the old haydock course was perfect for it.
im sure if haydock had changed to its velodrome chase track with its trolly fences a few years before,it wouldnt have got the race.

Apparently (according to the RP Website) they have stiffened up the fences – they looked bigger and thicker at the two meetings so far this season – and have reverted to the old 5 down the back.

While I hated them originally, the portable fences are winning me over.
