Apologies, the subject line wouldn’t allow enough characters to type my question in full, but what I am really asking is;
Have you ever backed a horse that lost that was subsequently deemed to have been a non trier by the authorities?
In light of the pending Panorama programme to be aired this evening, it will be interesting to see how many of you have backed a horse that didn’t officially try – and by that, the horse must have been done under the non triers rule or been investigated further under suspicion of corruption. The horse must not have been deemed to be a non trier in your own opinion only.
Steve Mellish has just admitted on RUK that he does think corruption does exist in racing at a low level, and I’m sure many of us agree – but we don’t have, and perhaps never will have, concrete evidence to prove it.
On top of that, I can put my hand on my heart and say that I’ve never backed a horse that has been done under the non triers rule. I’ve backed many that I think were non triers, or many that were given dreadful rides, but none that were officially deemed to have non tried. How many others can say this is the case?

July 30, 2008 at 14:28 #175333Bit like asking how many times you’ve exceeded the speed-limit, and been done for speeding, Mikky.
The vast majority of ‘apparent’ non-triers aren’t even spotted, let alone found guilty, and consequently, I don’t recall ever having backed a proven non-trier.
And if Dibble is looking in, I’ve never exceeded the speed-limit either.
July 30, 2008 at 22:30 #175409Yes, I backed a horse I owned when it was not off and ridden by a well known northern jump jockey.
July 30, 2008 at 22:31 #175410What was the case Wallace?
July 30, 2008 at 23:12 #175435The horse was called…………………. Nah can’t do that! I like TRF.
I backed a horse I owned and was told (by a a good friend and bookmaker I have known for years) when the horses were on the way to the start it would be pulled up. The jockey completely ignored the instructions he had been given and never put the horse in the race and pulled up. He said afterwards it was never traveling and he looked after it for another day.
July 31, 2008 at 08:47 #175478…….how about the jockey’s name then, Wallace?

You can PM if you like.

August 1, 2008 at 00:35 #175621Star of a Gunner won the Lincoln that year.
Welll done Sarkey you dancing Brave
The horse who should have won was in the minor places. The jokey was interviewed just before the race and chewed gum to hide his apprehension. What a louse !
One of the big shafting bookmaking firms who took all my bets were always bigger on the ante post priceThe Lincoln is a tough old race – so it’s all speculation but that go away creeping sinking feeling when you know, and old George Cole inside you would touch his nose and say ‘you dirty git ‘

The Riddler and the Joker now haunt Gotham.
We all know that it’s 1.01 that they’ve picked your pockets, but they’ve issued the bungs to get the MOT certificates on your Swiftmoibile and their tracks are covered.
School for scoundrels, guess who’s enrolled…don’t ask me I already know!
August 1, 2008 at 11:58 #175650I remember backing a horse called ‘Crimplene’ or something like that ridden by Frankie. It wasnt an official non-trier but didnt seem to get a clear run, boxed in, in an 9 runner race, right up the back of a wall of horses.
Next time out it won at 14/1 at the Curragh.

I don’t think Batman’s cape would be that out of place
pacing up and down the the parade ring.
Racing needs a super mario figure
to weigh up the evidence super fast
and zap into action turning a suspect Lincoln
quickly into Lincoln’s Inn.Glenn after the disappointment of that race I burned my form books
and transformed my betting method from french cuisine to bangers and mash.. From then on I concentrated far less on historical trends and minutiae and more on the blatantly mathematical. As Batman might say…

August 2, 2008 at 10:22 #175775Ricky I turned in at 1.40.
but yes I do tend to spew on krone. The recent successes of
Duke of Marmalade , Henry the Navigator and Yeats have gone a little way to blunt the Panorama of bleak racing, however there was a smell of British Gas about two of them.
The exchanges certainly offer a short back and sides service.
We have to bless them though
they have turned the evil of gambling
into a god sport and all the brainchild
of a man called Black.Remember Ricky this is still the season of the witch.
Have a good Saturday
but exercise caution
and watch the skies…

August 2, 2008 at 12:34 #175797Ricky good luck to you
and good that you come back
to bring back wit.
Interesting about the rain !I have lost my flatcap
and perch in here
like an imbecile parrot
with little form to stay.My gas warning above
was purely about the short
prices, but I am fallible,
and two cups of 4/6
for the last two mentioned
may have been a tall order. This place is very much like the Footsie
up and down and difficult to guess.
I wouldn’t agree the house is dull
simply there are more with white coats
and a frowned brow.
Forensic posting has to be
and I can’t do it !I have beer in this weekend
but sup no alcohol until evening.
I will be watching the racing
on the crouching menace
in spasms
