The Racing Post’s write up after the G3 Amethyst Stakes on Sunday said,
"Australian import Haradasun was an absentee due to a stone bruise. (TOH)"
On Monday the Racing Post then says, quoting an Australian newspaper:
"A SPARKLING training gallop by Haradasun at Ballydoyle on Saturday prompted trainer Aidan O’Brien to scrap plans to tackle the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes the following day and aim higher, reports the Herald Sun in Australia.
Haradasun’s much anticipated first-up run for O’Brien will now be in the Group 1 Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes over a mile at Newbury on Saturday."Is a stone bruise a minor problem ? Will it be no problem by this Saturday ?
Haradasun’s antepost price for the Lockinge has contracted over those 2 days.

May 13, 2008 at 06:55 #163106The Herald Sun writers don’t have anuses. They also don’t know the meaning of "modesty" – and the same goes with the majority of the Australian thoroughbred media.
Not sure about Haradasun on seasonal debut. Was never a fan of him until he had at least one run under his belt.
May 13, 2008 at 07:23 #163109Not sure that running a horse with well-documented foot problems on fast ground at Newbury first-time out would be the most advisable plan if they want to build him up over the course of the season.
May 13, 2008 at 07:57 #163113The Queen Anne is the main target (for the early summer) I believe with not too many tears shed if he is beaten on Saturday.
Having said that, the Lockinge field isn’t massively strong and doesn’t have anything which Haradasun should be running from.
Where is Ramonti?

He was never trained by Aidan O’Brien before.
I’ve had a speculative punt on him as I think this is one of the weakest Lockinge’s you are likely to see. Cesare is a weak favourite imo despite his comfortable debut win. Cecil’s horse is the danger I think.
May 13, 2008 at 09:51 #163151What do you mean? I’ve seen Haradasun race since his debut 10 length win at Swan Hill!
May 13, 2008 at 10:03 #163155I think he means that a horse’s ability to run well off a break is a function of the trainer/training regime as well as the horse itself.
May 13, 2008 at 10:09 #163156Thanks Pru. I wasn’t going to reply because I wasn’t sure what he/she meant.
Well … APO’B and his yard have been requiring a run before shifting into sixth gear, anyway … IMO.
May 13, 2008 at 10:12 #163157I mean O’Brien is capable of getting them ready and primed first time up and if the report in the RP is true then he must be ready and I would expect him to go close.
Not sure how you say you’re not a fan of him on his seasonal debut then qualify yuor knowledge by quoting his 10 length debut success?! Surely that means he is more than capable on his seasonal debut?
May 13, 2008 at 10:18 #163162He won the Maiden race on a country track against Picnic-class horses. I could never have determined that particular win to be an immediate insight into his ability on seasonal debut.
May 13, 2008 at 10:22 #163164Myles,
If he was a juvenile or 3yo then perhaps i’d agree but O’Brien will generally have his older charges pretty fit for their first run (Probably because they are more seasoned and used to the training regimes at their age). Duke of Marmalade and Yeats have shown up well on their first outings and if they have chosen to start him in a G1, as opposed to a moderate G3 (Amethyst Stakes), I would expect him to be ready to do himself justice.

May 13, 2008 at 11:07 #163177The interesting point raised here, surely, is the possibility that the horse was withdrawn from the race on Sunday for no reason other than that connections had second thoughts and fancied running it in a bigger race 6 days later. The Australian paper’s report certainly seems to suggest as much, but I understood this to be against the rules. Perhaps some intrepid investigative journalist could clarify the matter.
