Had a candle lit tonight for the people of Paris; will light another one now for Red. Doesn’t do any good for anyone except me, I guess. It seems I am doomed to a life of pessimism. God bless you Red.
November 21, 2015 at 00:15 #1222489Moe that’s a lovely thing to do, I’m with you too for Paris and Red..
This is a poem found on the plinth of the statue of Mill Reef at the National Stud Newmarket,
a fitting tribute to Red Cadeaux and all racehorses that we have loved and lost,
the words say it all:-Swift as a bird I flew down many a course.
Princes, Lords, Commoners all sang my praise.
In victory or defeat I played my part.
Remember me, all men who love the Horse,
If hearts and spirits flag in after days;
Though small, I gave my all. I gave my heart. From Paul Mellon’s speech at the Gimcrack Dinner 1970.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 21, 2015 at 00:27 #1222490Why just a candle for Paris? ISIS are killing people all over the world. Makes me laugh seeing all the sheep on facebook donning a Paris flag filter. Well it doesn’t make me laugh exactly, but does make me despair of the way the masses are so easily led. Us against them is exactly what these murdering bastards like to see. Anyway, this isn’t the right thread for my rant. Love and peace
November 21, 2015 at 00:46 #1222493Dreadful news (worse still that there is nothing at all on the Racing Post website, but that’s another story). At least we can be sure that everything possible was tried. It was all looking so positive. R.I.P. Red Cadeaux

Oh please not here DB
It’s not just a candle for Paris it is a candle (a ray of hope) for all those who have died at the hands of these murdering B’s all over the world.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 21, 2015 at 11:58 #1222591Thanks Triptych. There are so many terrible things happening everywhere sometimes we feel helpless; being upset about Paris or a horse dying doesn’t mean that other things don’t matter to us. I don’t know if people saw that series many years ago ‘The Great War’; perhaps one of the first series of it’s kind [and still one of the best] but it was the sight of the dead horses in the opening sequence that got to me more than anything…probably because they epitomised the futility of war and the way that so many innocent lives, both human and animal were lost.
November 21, 2015 at 15:32 #1222620I saw that too Moe it was heart wrenching.
I still can’t bring myself to watch War Horse as much as I would love too and also do you remember the Hyde Park bombings in 1982 the carnage in the streets, 11 military and seven horses I just couldn’t bear to see those pictures all over the front pages of the newspapers. We had just bought my son a rocking horse for his Christening
and we named it Sefton after the brave survivor of that horrific day, we still have him to this day (a little worse for wear) but would never part with him.
There’s something about horses, their loyalty to man to follow him wherever he leads whether it be into danger or just a pleasurable hack in the countryside, we owe them a great debt, no other animal has served us better throughout history.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 21, 2015 at 16:02 #1222628Wonderful words Moehat and Triptych, can’t top them.
Red Cadeaux was one of those triers. We can’t know what’s in their minds, but Red gave a distinct impression of loving his occupation.
Value Is EverythingNovember 21, 2015 at 23:08 #1222668Very sad news. I always feel so sorry for the stable staff that look after horses who lose their lives. Must be a very difficult part of the job.
