Good Morning!
Grosser Dallymayr preis (Munich 2000m)
Coral have priced this race up,their at 121% (German Tote bet to 133%) so worth a look at,current prices,in brackets is how i would bet the race to same %:-
PRESSING 3.25 (3.25) One of the class horses, trips perfect, form of the Rome race where he chased home SADDEX would be enough, track should suit and Suborics would be as good as anybody at this venue, plenty of positives!
LINGARI 3.75 (4.3) Would be a lay for me ,pulled hard when last seen over the mile at Ascot, whilst he`s been contesting races at an higher level a mile would appear to suit him better, the positives are Munich would suit his racing style and Ryan Moore is er Ryan Moore!!
EGERTON 7.0 (7.0) Would prefer 12F, with that said he will be staying on when the others have cried enough, despite winning two this year he needs producing at the right time and i have a feeling he will be flat to the boards a fair way out, could place on a course that will suit his style of running!
WIESENPFAD 7.0 (4.5) My idea of the winner, lightly raced for a 5-y-o, he came back with a win at Baden Baden (Usually needs run) and followed up at Dortmund, he`s a real speed merchant with a great turn of foot,as he settles so well a mile or ten furlongs come alike to him,i guess we will see him at the back of the pack before being unleashed between the 200-400m marker.
FAIR BREEZE 10.0 (8.5) Improving filly, would be a danger to all if the going came up soft, whilst that`s unlikely this likeable type should show her quality with a possible place!!
SANTIAGO 12.0 (17.0) No way, better at the mile and still can`t get out of my head the beating from DONALDSON (JJ hurdler!!)
AXXOS 15.0 (21.0) Everything says no,will start a bit shorter because of connections!
SHREK 15.0 (10.0) Got 2.25L to find with WIESENPFAD and was a long way behind PRESSING in Rome, however,i`ve got a feeling this horse has more to offer and he seems to be finding himself now,he could benefit most from a tactical race and he`s certainly a lively outside, 14-1 is too big!
TEMPLETANZER 34.0 (81.0) East bloc form doesn`t add up at this level, should be the whipper in!!
Conclusion:-
Munich suits horses that can be ridden for speed especially when the ground is riding good, this could be a tactical race with little pace thus i would expect the pullers to pull and the horses with a big finish to be better in the pursuing sprint, in my opinion WIESENPFAD as the best armoury for such a scenerio,my idea of the first three:
WIESENPFAD-PRESSING-SHREK!

Seems to be the most interesting race so far this season in the German calendar:
Is Pressing better on softish going? His results seem to indicate this. Going at Munich is announced 4,3 = good to soft. But there should be thunderstorms on a very warm/hot day all around in Germay in the afternoon.
Linngari should be held by the German based horses, Egerton, Wiesenpfad, Santiago and Fair Breeze should not be underestimated. There is not much between them and look out for the improving filly – she is best at the weights in the race on German GAG-ratings! But perhaps no weather for fillies today?
Egerton surprised at Hamburg over 12f, which earlier was to much for him. He likes left-handed tracks – he is a horse for course for Baden-Baden and Munich is a similar track. Anything must suit him for a good race – a wonderful horse, but a character of his own.
Wiesenpfad collects G3-races and likes left-turning tracks, too. Our paper says: "… never met opponents as strong as today." Must show that he is a real horse of class – why not today?
Santiago is excellent with a great burst of speed, but often unlucky – 8-9f should suit him better.
So for me it’s Pressing – Fair Breeze – Wiesenpfad – Egerton / Santiago – Shrek.
July 27, 2008 at 11:18 #174988Are the owners mad in running Egerton in a race that is not 12 furlongs?
And, since when could Linngari go 12 furlongs?
Saddex would beat these up bruised and blue, so Pressing should have little problems if he is conditioned to form and finds the track OK.
July 27, 2008 at 19:52 #175058Excellent preview Tony, nice additional comments from Parlo, and apologies for not writing sooner – just my luck on the day I decide to have a trip out, there’s loads going on in Germany!!! I’ve not seen the race, but I’ve heard Linngari won from Pressing. They would have not been in my first three – I know it was only 2000 metres, but I went for Egerton. Fair Breezes best form has been on Soft, and Wiesenpfad hasn’t won at higher than group 3. Even so, I did take those two to follow home Egerton, so my 1-2-3 would have been:
Egerton – Fair Breeze – Wiesenpfad
I appear to have been quite wide of the mark!!

July 27, 2008 at 21:42 #175068They showed the race on ATR and Pressing came through to challenge on the rails with 200 metres to go but then Ryan Moore brought Linngari with a real finishing burst down the middle of the track and he was well on top in the last 100 metres.
Istanbul may now be on the agenda for the winner apparently.
July 27, 2008 at 23:08 #175078I didn’t see the race – nevertheless a bit disapointing result.
Very slowly run: 2:10 min – thus (?!) the best sprinter in the field wins.
So far Linngari was the only G1-winner of all competitors.
