That’s the best middle distance 3 year old colt.
Agreed. That’s a serious horse who could be competitive in any horse he ran in; he’d win the St Leger I reckon and would be competitive in an arc but looks like they will be putting him away for the year. I hope they don’t put him away then some injury comes to light and he’s put off to stud and we never seem him again.
That mid race surge was very Frankelesque. Reminded me a bit of Frankel in the Royal Lodge. Once those Frankels show their stride there’s nothing that can live with them.
August 23, 2017 at 15:09 #1315030What price for the Arc?
August 23, 2017 at 15:11 #1315032There was always the possibility that he’s a better horse with a bit of cut in the ground and looks to have improved since Epsom.
They should run him in the Ledger, he’d hack up and it’ll highlight the death of the race if he doesn’t show. And that would be a real shame. If they miss it then I hope it’s because they’re aiming at the Arc but let’s be honest he’d struggle to defeat a certain stablemate.
I’m not sure any in behind were overly happy with the conditions and Venice Beach looks like he’ll be a better horse on a quicker surface and a longer distance. I think he’ll be a nice cup horse next year.

Well Capri did beat him in the Irish Derby but I think time will tell Cracksman’s a wee bit better than that Ballydoyle colt.
I’d like to hear you amend that statement if Barney Roy wins the Juddmonte though.
August 23, 2017 at 15:14 #1315035Took 10s – surely they must go?
August 23, 2017 at 15:17 #1315037Call me controversial but I reckon he’d put it right up to Enable as well.
August 23, 2017 at 15:18 #1315038To be lobbing along looking close to outpaced at times and then go and put a Group 2 to bed in a few strides is quite unusual, imo. More importantly, he looks to have progressed on an awful lot with probably quite a bit more to come.

Not a hope with the weight hed have to give
It was an excellent performance but it should have been,
He was rated a good few lbs over the field, he “should” have won this fairly comfortably, although he won it easier than i thought.August 23, 2017 at 15:22 #1315042Call me controversial but I reckon he’d put it right up to Enable as well.
It’d be a boring sport if we all had the same opinions but I think there’s a world of difference between handing out a beating to a horse a fair bit down the O’Brien pecking order and devastatingly dismantling a field containing winners of the Eclipse, Prince of Wales (x2), King George, Irish Derby, Sheema Classic and Hardwicke.

I agree if he were mine I’d go, but when there’s a possibility of supplementing for Donny or not running at all. I wouldn’t take any price, but then again – remember Thistlecrack King George. My heart wants him to run in the Arc, my wallet doesn’t.
Value Is EverythingAugust 23, 2017 at 15:25 #1315044What price would you give Cracksman vs Enable over 1 miles 2 at york?
Personally I reckon they’d go 4/6 Enable 6-4 Cracksman. Personally I’d be all over the Cracks at those odds.
August 23, 2017 at 15:25 #1315045Or 1 mile four even.
August 23, 2017 at 15:35 #1315055Easy as pie for Cracksman.
Gosden repeated after the race what he said a few weeks ago, which was that Cracksman’s season may finish after the Voltigeur.
The Leger seems to appeal little these days and Gosden has never seen the Arc as that important in the scheme of things.
A very progressive showing today from Cracksman and he clearly stays very well. A bit outpaced it seemed at one stage but he clearly has the engine, if not the most impressive gait. There is plenty of substance to him and he should make a belting 4YO.
Mirage Dancer never looked like getting involved really, it was a fairly tame effort in third. Venice Beach ran an honest race but couldn’t match Cracksman. You can still get him at 20/1 for the St Leger, Cracksman is no longer in the list for that race.
Cracksman probably didn’t beat much there but it was a trouncing he gave them. Once again, one of my Classic picks comes good too late

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
