“Worried that Kittys Light won’t even get the opportunity to run now.”
Should be alright. The top 54 (previously 60) minimum got a run historically.
February 20, 2024 at 15:41 #1681838I’m hoping Kitty’s Light gets chanc to run, it is worrying with field size reduced now to 34

February 20, 2024 at 15:47 #1681839He’s off the same mark as Corach Rambler last year so I thought it was a sure thing.
Worried now with so many higher rated horses entered and max 34 runners.February 20, 2024 at 15:53 #1681841Am happy enough with the weights.
But it seems a bit odd that Corach Rambler received 1 lb from Vanillier and beat him 2 1/4 lengths last year… And yet he’s set to give Vanillier 8 lbs this year.
I know Corach Rambler idles, but 8 lb?
Not that Corach Rambler is poorly handicapped, it’s just that Vanillier seems on a particularly good mark. That siad, the Irish horse isn’t usually as good a jumper.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 20, 2024 at 15:59 #1681843I wouldn’t worry about Kitty’s Light not getting in. He just needs 12 to come out as he shares a mark with 8 others. As long as he doesn’t finish down the field on Saturday and his mark drops; he’ll be certain to get in over the others rated the same.

They can only go up if the top weight(s) drops out, won’t go down.
February 20, 2024 at 16:10 #1681846Mike,
Kitty’s Light is currently on 10-3 and number 52,
If Kitty’s Light runs well, ie goes up in the handicap up for other races…
He’ll go to the head of all those on 10-3 in the Grand National…
Potentially going from 52 in the list to number 46 which makes a big difference for getting in.
If doing poorly on Saturday and is dropped for future handicaps he could potentially end up number 53.ie His Grand National handicap mark remains the same but is more likely to get in.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 20, 2024 at 16:16 #1681847That’s fair enough Ginger if that happens. More chance of a run, even though at 52 I would’ve expected a run anyway.
February 20, 2024 at 16:18 #1681848I think 52 will be very tight one way or the other.
I’d be much more certain on 46.Value Is EverythingFebruary 20, 2024 at 16:19 #1681850Corach Rambler was no43 initially last year and ended up at no26.
If that’s anything to go by, it’s going to be awful tight regards Kittys Light.
February 20, 2024 at 16:29 #1681851Just to reiterate, the top 54 (60 of old) on weights day have usually always got a run historically. In fact the ones that get in have gone down a bit further down than that, but I look at the top 54 (top 60 of old) as a guaranteed safety net. Now I know that things could change as this is the first time with 34 runners but looking on the bright side if you have backed anything above and including Busselton you should be alright as a number of them horses in that top 54 will not all run.
February 20, 2024 at 16:33 #1681852Doesn’t look as though connections decision to “preserve” Mahler Mission’s mark has paid off.
Predicted to be getting 4 lbs from Corach Rambler, only gets 1 lb.Value Is EverythingFebruary 20, 2024 at 17:29 #1681853Going to be very very tight, and that’s being generous, for 2 I like. Highland Hunter and Kinondo Kwetu.
February 20, 2024 at 17:58 #1681854“Kitty’s Light 25/1
Corach Rambler 14/1
Mahler Mission 17/1
Minella Indo 31/1
Threeunderthrufive 36/1”—————————–
Disappointed in Mahler Mission’s handicap mark so cashed out of that one completely @ 15.5/1.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 20, 2024 at 18:12 #1681856Stattler , 11 1 , lovely , I’m pretty sure he ticks all the relevant boxes , he also gave the current favourite a proper doing previously , as for the comments on Rambler , prev winners have been treated worse , if he runs a big race at Cheltenham the mark may get look a bit silly
February 20, 2024 at 18:19 #1681857I hoped finishing within a length of Ahoy Senor might mean Sail Away got in as I fancied him for this. Maybe next year.
February 20, 2024 at 18:37 #1681860Just reading Racing TV’s article on Mullins’ and Elliott’s barrage.
Willie describes just about all his entries as “interesting”, so no clues there to the surprise of no one. Meanwhile, Elliott will be sending around 10 if his intentions are followed up on.
Every possibility 20 of the 34 will be represented by two trainers.
Ruby Walsh made some suggestions on further conditions for entry. Namely a minimum of 6 *completed* chase starts (as opposed to just 6 starts) required, and having run in three chases (and finishing in the frame in a >3 mile chase) that season in order to qualify. The idea being that the lineup should contain the best “in form” horses, not just the best rated.
Certainly food for thought.
