I’ve always been very sweet on Planet of Sounds stable companion From Dawn To Dusk, but he had to miss the race last season due to injury. They both seem like very similar individuals, but i suppose what’s keeping me off him for the moment is that old case of ‘i’ll believe it when i see it’. That encouraging run yesterday might just give him new reasons to go to Cheltenham and Punchestowns and go for Aintree in 2013…
I could be totally wrong here, so forgive me. Still I think I remember reading on Racehorse Memories that From Dawn To Dusk was retired because of that injury.
Aw man that sucks. Ah well plenty of other potential winners out there…
And if you think Mon Parrain being in the ante post market is silly… i saw Pour Moir in an ante post market for the National!
December 3, 2011 at 14:58 #380836Both West End Rocker and Niche Market ran solid trials in the Bechers for the main event come April. Niche was unlucky and ran from off the pace, a good tactics. Felt sorry for Niche as he’s due a win, but lost to a better horse on the day.
Last week Planet Of Sound also impressed in the Hennessy (since has been put in the market).
December 3, 2011 at 15:56 #380847QUOTES: Wayne Hutchinson, rider of West End Rocker: "I thoroughly enjoyed that, what a ride he was. The key to him is he has to find his gear, he jumps from fence to fence and he wants these big, galloping tracks. I am sure he will be back for the Grand National."
December 3, 2011 at 18:13 #380866I thought Deep Purple’s win at Sandown was somewhat reminiscent of Rhyme N Reason’s victory in the Anthony Mildmay and Peter Cazalet. Whether he gets the extra distance is always a doubt, but if he were aimed at the race then who knows…
December 3, 2011 at 18:19 #380870He was pretty low at some of his fences and one such mistake pushed him back part way through the race. Good to see him run such a mighty race, though.
December 6, 2011 at 16:04 #381355Vic Venturi has just been disgustingly unlucky at the last 2 Grand Nationals, being brought down in both. He’s a great horse & have backed him at 280s, 290s and 300s.

The stamina to finish a very close third in a 4 miler and the speed to go on and win at 2, 6… not a bad shout! He should just get in at 140, but it could be tight.
December 11, 2011 at 21:44 #382219Fancy synchronised and west end rocker but theyve already been covered so ill throw 2 into the hat yet to be mentioned.
One of those I think could be quite interesting if turning up is Fair Along but with him being small would he take to the fences and what kind of weight is he likely to get?
Like Scotsirish aswell but I presume he will run in the x country at the festival which is a negative for me!

Me and my dad were discussing Fair Along a few weeks back, saying how he really appeals as a classic National sort. I wouldn’t worry about his size.
I just have reservations over Scotsirish’s stamina? He did look like figuring in the Cross Country on Friday, but then it all went wrong, so whether he even makes that trip remains a mystery to me at least. At least we know he’ll enjoy the fences…
December 26, 2011 at 14:21 #384142Been nibbling away at a number of contenders over the last few months, but one of my main hopes runs today. Fabalu in the 1450 at Ffos Las. Sensibly swerved The Welsh National for this, would have been a tough comeback, having not run since April 2010. Fitness, naturally, has to be taken on trust after such a long absence, but hoping he can give me something to look forward to over the next few months.
On at 110’s to 250’s, I’m hopeful that that’ll look decent value just after 3 today. Here’s hoping.

You’re right Peter, Scotsirish has big stamina doubts.
But Fair Along must be a big price to get around. Unless he can get out in front he’ll down tools and jump poorly.
Value Is EverythingDecember 27, 2011 at 21:08 #384502The Welsh National is a very good trail race for the main event come April. Respect to Le Beau Bai and Giles Cross, but Cappa Bleu might be the one for April.
Today’s race was run on Heavy going and the better ground might suit Cappa Bleu better.
